After installing a bed length floor that I trusted I wonder how much weight capacity would be left.

Lisa, you know chefdennis was taunting you over in another thread?

Yeah, I know. I let him have his fun.

I know guys have been able to remove the wheel wells on a dual sprinter and move them out enough to fit a US spec skid through. Takes some cutting and welding. But it has been done and allowed the use of the stock dual rear wheels.

My previous Sprinter, a 2003 model had the wheel wells modified and a 3" raised floor installed. It took 3" in over all height from the load capacity.

The "floor" was made of 3" aluminum I beams, such as the side supports for some trailers.

In all the time I owned it, there were never any issues with the stability, and I had increased the distance between the wheel wells to 63" .... I have some pictures of it ... somewhere ... if I can find them, I'll post them here.

And, btw, the dual Sprinters have now increased the tire size to 16"

3" probably would have little effect on stability, but most wheel wells are a foot or so high. That might make yer van a bit tippy :)

We drive a 2006 3500 with modified wheel wells (cut down 7") and a platform floor. There is 5" of height lost but more than 20" of width gained. We are 6,000 pounds leaving 3,990 payload. In addition, we replaced the ultra-stupid looking 15" diameter wheels with Alcoa 16" aluminum rims running 215 65 16 tires that have something like 2,400 lb. capacity each. We contemplated converting to singles but couldn't find a legal capacity wheel/tire combination. However, we are very happy with our 22mpg 3,990 lb. capacity solution to the stupidity of Mercede's designers!

OK i gotta comment on the sprinter 3500 thread.. Being i was one of the ppl that used to own one...
What ya lose in height you make up for in weight... therefore, it was equal to owning a 2500
