From the story online:

"Interstate truck and bus drivers across America may find themselves pulled off the highway if state troopers or vehicle inspectors find they can't speak English."

"Under the new enforcement regulations, drivers who can't speak English in the commercial zone may be ticketed and fined. Those beyond the border zone will also be pulled off the road."

"José Rocha Rodríguez was one of the first drivers to be sanctioned for not knowing English. He said he wasn't fined but given a notice saying he could not pass the border zone."

"They talk to you now in English and they've never done that before," he said.

"Jose Mendoza, a 25-year-old driver in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, said that it seemed the United State authorities were always coming up with new ways to stop Mexican trucks from traveling beyond the border. He said the drivers felt discriminated against, and that U.S. officials were looking for any pretext to fine them."

"They are giving us all kinds of fines. Last week, for a headlight that I could change myself, they charged $150. And this after they saw that I was changing it," Mendoza said.

Welcome to our world, where the bears are equal opportunity revenuers. hehe

Unlike the Canadian trucks that are safe, good drivers, the Percieved Mexican truck "problem" will have a way of taking care of itself.

We can only hope so. At least Senor Bush can't control how the STATE cops give tickets.

If Mr Nacho could've changed the light himself, why didn't he before he got the ticket? geez $150? That's a lot of holy frajoles! Again... welcome to our world! :7

I travel into Ontario every week and every week there is a truck wreck in Ontario . Many Canadian drivers deserve respect but there is a much higher percentage of tailgating drivers there . When I see a truck tailgating or speeding in OH or MI the majority of the time the truck has an Ontario registration .

You got that right Crazy. I think xo6 has never been on the 401. If you're in the left lane passing traffic and "only" doing 120, odds are that you will be very closely tailgated and called vulgar names on the CB. When I ran the 401 regularly, it was a problem there WAY more than anywhere else I've been.

Was in Toronto a few years back in slow traffic, doing maby 2 MPH and felt a little nudge. Keep in mind my truch had those shiny chrome back doors that you can't miss. Well he didn't miss by much and totaled out his pick-up. Tailgating to the extreme!
