Weekly Revenue

Been with Eagle, driving cargo van for a month. First pay periods were odd, with the additional one-time charges, but now I have a feel for what revenue I can generate for a week's efforts. And it isn't what I had expected, or been told. Not being negativer here - I came in to test the waters at my own risk...but treading water can only last so long. Bottom line: average 450 week, before standard 148 company weekly deductions (then minus 200 gas weekly, etc.).

What I am seeking is feedback from a few of you cargo van drivers, who will be honest with me concerning an average weekly gross; then I can perhaps make a better decision for moving into real expediting. Definitely enjoy the driving, and the delivering, but the 100 mile trips are only a tease.

Income that low, this time of year, would be a red flag to me... but I know nothing about Eagle. I talk to a few drivers fairly regularly around the Columbus Ohio area, and I know the Panther, Conway, and FedEx van drivers I talk to are running good right now.. better than the rest of the year.

This should be the busiest time of year for ANY size unit, and if they can't keep you busy now.. I question what the 'slow' months will be...

you should go to a d unit with 24/26 ft box with `a lift gate
a van with egl is a waste of time and money
or get a sprinter, any thing that holds more freight than van
here in norfolk station doing ok with a 16 ft box going to
put on a lift gate that will raise income up by 200 or more a week

Tinman, don't get discouraged with Eagle, I'm running with them and doing good. Home weekends and about 3 or 4 nights during the week.
Post your email address and I will send you info.

Just curious $144 a week for a standard deduction seems high, are you paying for all of the required insurance??

Yes, I pay for the Worker's Comp, Vehicle/Cargo Liability Insurance.
My original intent in hiring with Eagle was to develop a six-months' basis of experience for later hiring to an expediting company.
Thanks for the replies.

$144 a week for a van is very high. In the Roberts days, that is what a van would pay for a month of all deductions.

Nice to hear from you, Lawrence. And, thanks for the reply. I met you at the Expo - we were the other retired Coast Guard couple (talkling with Terry Oconnell). I gained alot of insight and motivation from all the people I spoke with at the Detroiter.

My wife and I run for EGL. She runs a chevy extended van, and I run a "D" unit, She averages about $800. per week, She runs about 9 hours a day 5 days a week. Her deductions are right at $100.00 a week and that includes the POS Nextel so you can POD on the E-Mad (crap) system. She does not spend near the amount on fuel that you do.
My deductions run about $150. per week and I do somewhere around $1600. if I want to run 4/5 days week. A lift gate will make some more money for you, but it has not made $200. a week. We get 65% of 25.00 (16.25) per stop. It has gotten me some sweet runs. $3,600. to CA. because of it thou.
Now we get word that they will hold our pay for two weeks, That really sucks.

jaminjim, thanks...
I think the same of the emad system (causes me much wasted time when it doesn't work), and yes, waiting two weeks for pay isn't right!
Your wife's deductions must not include EGL's insurance. However, I DID make 800 last week, so maybe the curve on income is on the upswing. I would really like an expediter's weekly gross, as a comparison. Spoke with a Tri-State D-trucker yesterday at lunch; he seemed to think they were looking for cargo vans.
