Is it just me or has anyone noticed how mild the winter has been compared to recent years.Last year we had hurricanes, tusamis, earthquakes, volcano's popping off and other weather problems.
Today I was on the road ,had XM on Channel 165 and on the 3 PM News they were talking about the very mild winter Minnesota has had. They interviewed the Mayor of Duluth (which is way up there) and he said it was the warmest winter he could remember. The city had to shut down the outdoor hockey and ice skating rinks because the ice would melt.Hard to believe as Minnesota usuually gets way below zero in the winter.
But tonight here in Northern FL the temperature is going to hit 28 and we have 40 mph winds. Might want to move to MN..:) :)

Aren’t we in another one of those weird weather cycles?

I understand from friends that 1935 and 1936 (yea they are over 80) were really weird years, hot weather everywhere in the summer, no snow in some areas all winter in the far north and cold icy conditions in the south in the winter and into the spring.

Cycle? Maybe but on the other hand it may be President Bush’s fault, he bought the weather machine from Halliburton and had an intern try to figure out how to run it.

We had a team there (MN) on the first week of the month (Jan) and they were surprised by how warm it was. 35 to 40 degrees. That is a heat wave for this time of year in MN.
Here in TN it is just about as warm as our place in FL. Go figure.
Global warming might be a good thing?

I'll gladly take the warm weather. Though it can cause problems in summer w/ lakes not filling up & such. I wonder if your post is gonna jinx us though. Could 3 feet of snow be right around the corner?? If so, we know who to chuck the snowballs at!!

Be well,
Danny

There's a little island in Lake Erie just off the coast of Port Clinton/Sandusky called Put-In-Bay. I just saw on the news where they have resumed ferry service to/from the island for the first time in January in 50+ years. The weather is definitely strange to say the least. I just hope it doesn't snow in May!

January weather in Minnesota varies a lot. I remember a January day when I was outdoors in shirt sleves on a sunny afternoon helping a friend split logs. The temp was around 50F. From posts here, it appears this January (2006) sounds like a warm one too, though temps could easily plunge to sub-zero. Last year (Jan 2005) was a doosie! The freight took us to Minnesota where we spent a night cooped up in the sleeper praying the fuel would not gel. That morning, we woke up to a temperature (not wind chill) of -26F. Historical record cold temperatures are in the -60F to -65 rage, depending on the weather station location.
