Weather Alert Alarm

I have been hearing ads for a weather alert alarm for truckers so if we are sleeping in an area hit by a weather system it will wake us up with an alarm. I haven't looked at these weather radio things but does anyone use them and do they work? So if you are in an area hit by a tornado (for instance) and alarm goes off to warn you of the impending danger? Does it warn you of just strong winds and rain also? ih

I have one at home but it has to be programmed for the county you are in,so before you went to sleep you would have to call the National Weather Service then give the State and County you are in. It's not complicated, question is how do we know at 0 dark hundred what county the truck is in.

CB radios are available with weather alert features built in. They use the same NOAA information and alert systems other products do. We have it, we use it, and it works. Even if the CB radio is turned off, if a weather alert is issued, a loud alarm sounds that tells us to turn on the radio and hear the alert. It is nice because you do not have to buy yet another device to receive weather alerts. Our CB radio is the Cobra 29 WX NW ST. The WX refers to the weather alert feature.

These radios and others like them are widely available at truck stops and at better prices online. Dozens of them are for sale right now on eBay.

As far as determining the county you are in, there are several methods. (1) Watch the road signs that tell you what county you are in when you cross county lines. (2) Ask a local store clerk, police officer or passerby, (3) Get on the CB radio and ask other drivers. (4) Look at a map. (5) Use computer mapping programs to tell you. (6) Use internet mapping programs to tell you. (7) Online, use real estate web sites to tell you. (8) On the Google web site (http://www.google.com), note the town you are in or near and type the following: "What county is (town name, state) in?" minus the quotation marks.
