The responce I'm seeing is that sitting 8 days is bad. Are you saying that sitting 8 days is good?

Very nice White Shepards '

Just like mine Logan he is just a puppy only 7 months old and he already 110lbs going to be about 135 - 150 lbs when he is fully grown. Yes he is pure bred, have all the papers his mom and dad were in the cat of 150 lbs germans shepards.

Have a safe one

I don't think this post qualifies as a OPW at all. Specific issues were listed as problems for this driver, but they allow other readers to determine if these same issues might be a problem for them, and to what degree, and in doing so will be able to use that information to include or exclude Panther as a potential carrier to sign on with. There are other benefits of the post, and the thread, as well.

It's a good thing.

Well, this IS Hino's first post. It's ok I guess for a first post to be a gripe, but Hino, you talk like everyone knows your situation, which makes me think this might be a new username for an old member? Most likely an OPW.

Hey Hino,

I feel ya pain. No doubt you have to be proactive in decission making, and it may take a moment to get the feeling of a company leased on with. Just don't let the moment be too long. If you have a feeling that you need to move out of an area then do not wait 8 days to do it. Look back at area's that were good to you and expand your board/layover options. If I sit more than 48hrs I have overstayed my welcome.

new username for an old user would best be known as a "MULT" as in multiple personality.

But just to add my $.02!
I have sat for a week in a couple spots over the last 2 1/2 yrs but when I got tired of sitting...I LEFT!! I never EVER sit anywhere more than 3 days. I have spoken with quite a few ConWay drivers who got swapped and NONE of them were happy campers.
The wife and I even made friends with a Conway couple at Panther HQ and helped get them in a new truck THAT day with the owner we work for.
As for not making any money?! Don't know what to tell ya. Stats bad? CherryPicker? Late?
I work for someone else and I can make your truck payment in a week! But i do wish you luck in all of your endeavors

And how long did you work for them? What is bad about "##### kissing" if it gets your bills paid my friend? IMHO that adds up to being GOOD BUSINESS SENSE.

Do you realize how rediculous that "more drivers than
what they need" comment is? On any given day you will find about 60ish% of the entire fleet is "inservice" With 100's of load being refused by cherrypickers and panther having to deny 100+ loads because there are not enough people where they are needed.

Sitting in one place for 8 days is only part of the problem.Having a $2,000 a month truck payment (and for a HINO!!!!)would seem to be a bigger problem.JMHO.DD.

The key phrase in the original post, I think, was "...no one would help us." Being an independent contractor puts you in control. When I started , I was with a company that didn't mind leaving you sitting somewhere. They would say they didn't need more trucks in the busy areas. I quickly learned that if I went and got it line it was much more productive. Carriers the size of Panther and FECC have a "truck on every corner" philosophy to better serve their customers. If you were the only D team sitting where you were in Mississippi, I'm sure they wanted you to stay.

As a D-unit team, you're a valuable commodity in this business. You have a good chance for success, even with a very high truck payment. Some of the responces may seem a bit harsh, but they're from people who want to see you succeed. I hope you won't be a OPW and continue to post with stories of how well you're doing with the Fed.

In Hino's defense...

We have been expediting for 7 years and think we know the game pretty well. That said, we got "stuck" in Dallas once for at least five days.

It is hard to dead head 500 or more miles to another location and then sit behind 5 or 6 other trucks who have also dead headed to their current location. This is especially difficult when the dispatcher has claimed the area is a good one and no other trucks are there etc.

In addition, when we did offer to move ANYWHERE...we could not get an authorized paid move at all. I know that on another thread a fleet owner stated that their team was offered an authorized move from somewhere in Oregon to La, Ca. We were never, NOT once, offered a paid move anywhere. Further more, we know of several other people who were not, or have not, been offered any paid moves either.

They still do empty moves as another said, but they are not automatically generated. You have to call in, and be sitting at least 24 hours I believe? Not sure if the direction you want is factored in? We seldom ever use it, but have within the last 30 days once.
The day or so before Thanksgiving I believe, every truck gets a empty move home as long as they didn't refuse a load going that direction. It hasn't been announced, but I would imagine the same thing will happen at Christmas as it did last year.
Thanksgiving information reminder was sent last week over the QC.

If you're not authorized, it may be in your best interest to suk it up and pay the ferryman (or in our case, the fuel guy). I got stuck in Dallas behind three other trucks (that's a lot in our company). I had three options in my brain-housing group... 1) stay in Dallas; 2) dh to Memphis on my buck; 3) dh to Laredo on my buck. Cal (owner at C&M) suggested Laredo as we had no trucks there, and he was seeing freight. Man, was he right! Next day, got a load out of Pharr, picking up the following morning. The alternative was possibly waiting another week in Dallas. Although I had to eat the $150+ it cost to get down there, the main course tasted a lot better! :9
