Vinnie:
Your question deserves a two part answer.
An Owner/Driver leased to a carrier is either paid a percentage of the gross tariff or a milage rate. Milage compensation differs from carrier to carrier, as some pay deadhead, some pay partial deadhead, some pay no deadhead. Some carriers pay fuel surcharge on all authorized miles traveled, some pay FSC only on run miles traveled. Lots of accessorial charges and fees paid differently to or by different carriers. How do you get the money owed to you, the Owner/Driver? Some carriers put your compensation onto a Comdata account from which you draw monies as needed; some carriers send you a check, ervery now and then; weekly or twice monthly is probably the norm. Some carriers will also direct deposit into an account of your choosing.
As a driver working for an owner leased to an expedite carrier, you would normally get 60% of the revenue to the truck, the owner keeping 40%; driver pays fuel and tolls. Some owners keep 60% and they pay the fuel bill. It's not uncommon for an owner to pay a bonus percentage for great service, such as 65% when monthy revenue to the truck exceeds $xxxx.xx. As a driver, I would think that you should expect to perform some routine maintenance for which the owner would reimburse as soona as possible; headlamp, mudflap replacement as examples.
