What are some of the recommended ways that Straight truck drivers are paid in the expedite industry? Percentage, per mile, a combination? Who covers the fuel etc. Thanks in advance.

Read back into the archives for this type of information. There are numerous scenerios based on the carrier and other factors.
It will at least give you a starting point.

Ok Dave my eyes are bleeding reading through a gazillion posts for over two hours. 60/40 split is about all I cam out with. Can anyone else please share some more pay scales for drivers with a straight truck? Many thanks if someone could be so kind:)

I drove for 2 different Owners and the pay was 60/40,I the driver paid for the fuel and the tolls out of my 60%.1 owner would help me out by paying some tolls If I stayed on the east coast and the north east alot where there's alot of toll roads,It helped out he would pay me back about 50% of the tolls...Owner would also pay for any parking at truck stops If I didn't get fuel to stay the night or weekend,And owner paid for all truck washes and PM's...Hope this helps you...

What would be a good "per mile" rate?

Vinnie:

Your question deserves a two part answer.

An Owner/Driver leased to a carrier is either paid a percentage of the gross tariff or a milage rate. Milage compensation differs from carrier to carrier, as some pay deadhead, some pay partial deadhead, some pay no deadhead. Some carriers pay fuel surcharge on all authorized miles traveled, some pay FSC only on run miles traveled. Lots of accessorial charges and fees paid differently to or by different carriers. How do you get the money owed to you, the Owner/Driver? Some carriers put your compensation onto a Comdata account from which you draw monies as needed; some carriers send you a check, ervery now and then; weekly or twice monthly is probably the norm. Some carriers will also direct deposit into an account of your choosing.

As a driver working for an owner leased to an expedite carrier, you would normally get 60% of the revenue to the truck, the owner keeping 40%; driver pays fuel and tolls. Some owners keep 60% and they pay the fuel bill. It's not uncommon for an owner to pay a bonus percentage for great service, such as 65% when monthy revenue to the truck exceeds $xxxx.xx. As a driver, I would think that you should expect to perform some routine maintenance for which the owner would reimburse as soona as possible; headlamp, mudflap replacement as examples.

The owner i drive for pays me
.45 cents a loaded mile
Any miles over 2000 i get .50 cents
He pays all fuel and tolls. And all maintence.
And a 125 dollar bonus every 3 months
if i dont screw up the truck.

I think a deal like whitewolf has is the best way to go.that is if you want to keep your driver.

when I had trucks leased to carriers back in the late 90's I paid .35 per mile but if you pay them like that make sure you know what it cost to operate your truck.
