Had my English teacher back in high school tell me that people who correct such things outside of English class or as an editor for a writer are usually those who have to have thing right because they are afraid they will miss the meaning of the written word and be thought foolish whether it be because of a comprehension issue on there part or simply low self esteem.
in the last 35 year that has played out to be true more than not
{I once} Had my English teacher back in high school tell me that people who correct such things outside of English class {comma} or as an editor for a writer {comma} are usually those who have to have thing{s} right because they are afraid they will miss the meaning of the written word and be thought foolish {comma} whether {it be-strike} because of a comprehension issue on there {their} part or simply low self esteem.
I've never met a Grammar Nazi who corrected other people's grammar out of fear that they will be thought foolish for any reason, much less for a lack of reading comprehension or low self esteem issues. Grammar Nazi's could care less what people think of them.
A few who attack someone over punctuation, spelling and grammar do so out of low self esteem, where they try and make themselves feel better by belittling someone else. But, most people on forums who mention grammar and punctuation do so for one reason and one reason only: to encourage others to make the postings readable. There are many posts on many forums that are all but unintelligible, and very few who try to read them feel foolish for not being able to decipher the mind of the author in order to comprehend what they are reading.
So, giving the benefit of the doubt that he did actually make the statement some 35 years ago, it would seem the paraphrased quote from your high school English teacher was placed here in this thread solely to make those who correct grammar and punctuation feel bad or guilty for doing so.
That's an example of irony.
Fact is, no one here runs around in fine Grammar Nazi fashion correcting other people's mistakes. The only thing the Grammar Nazi's here ask is that if you are going to post something, and you want your thoughts and ideas to be communicated to others, then construct the posts with merely the basics of language communication, the most common being capital letters at the beginning of sentences, a single period at the ends of sentences, and once in a while a couple of carriage returns to start a new paragraph.

Typos and misspellings are fine, as are breath commas and whatever other grammatically incorrect punctuations might be required to make the post readable and comprehensible.
