Waiting For A Dry Run

I've been waiting at a shipper since 17:55 yesterday to get authorization from the customer for a dry run. The freight was scheduled for pick up at 21:00, but was "ready now". It was indeed ready when I arrived, all 67 inches in height. I asked the shipper if it could be laid down to fit through my 48" high doors. No it could not. The freight must remain upright.

I reported this information to dispatch, along with the shipping clerk's name and cellphone number to contact for verification. I was told to sit tight until the customer authorized the dry run. I'm still sitting, but not at the shipper's dock. About 22:00 I requested permission to move 8 miles to a truck stop to spend the night. Permission was granted and detention time kicked in at 23:00.

Dispatch claims the customer has not returned their calls, voice mails or e-mails. Must be some one-schmuck 3PL that only works Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 to 5:00.

Using a log book I wish dispatchers would get rid of that ready now. Too many times I am tempted to trust it and head out. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

Hope they included a meal ticket with that wait time for ya. :)

I say you are screwed Moot...no way a customer is going to pay more then 8 hrs D-Time and a Dry run....
I would be expecting a call asking...How much would make you go away?....and they'll ask YOU to be reasonable...LOL

I will say the SAME exact thing happened to me on a label load from PA to MI several months ago. "Ready now" (13:30 EST) and shipped about 03:15. Expensive FULL sleep period for them. But I was also reasonable with the per-hour. I think they were just glad I didn't leave at 23:00!!!

It really doesn't matter what the customer is willing to pay, my contract is with Panther.

I know that....E-1 did something the same to me once....something in the range of 52 hrs D-time.......They said this is coming out of OUR pocket....how much do you need?....I told them "what the contract Reads".....to which they said to be reasonable.

I'm I missing something, Moot said the freight was ready, but wouldn't fit thru the doors because it could not be laid down.
In that case there would be no D-time just TONU. IMO

What you are missing is customer permission to leave....

"Told to sit tight"
Powerful statement, IMHO.
