Visit to the Alamo

Mrs. Layoutshooter and I had the chance to visit the Alamo today. I was AWED and almost overwhelmed. As we walked that HALLOWED ground, the place where my childhood heros DIED, I was struck by the gravity of their sacrifice.

OVER 200 MEN who had the courage of their convictions, DIED, in that VERY spot where I was standing.

People today seem to NOT have that kind of courage. The courage to be willing to give up your life for an idea.

Another thing that struck me, something that I had forgotten, was just how many Europeans DIED there for Liberty and Freedom. They left Europe to find freedoms and liberties that, they DID NOT HAVE where they came from, and were willing to DIE to insure that generations to come could enjoy a life FREE of rule of the few.

I thank God every day that those few were SO brave and comitted to the belief that MANKIND should be FREE to determine their OWN destiny. MY life is a tribute to their sacrifice.

I just wonder how they would feel to see what is going on today. People willing to trade freedom for the empty promises of socialism and fascsim. I pray that their sacrifice and the sacrifices of the hundreds of thousands since that died to protect those freedoms were not in vain.

To those that died at the Alamo and everywhere else that freedom was theatend, thank you.

There are many places in this country and many places in foreign countries where just being there can cause you to have these same feelings of respect and patriotism.

I agree with almost everything that you had to say, except the part where you said people today seem to NOT have that courage.

I think I have the same contempt of what is happening to our great country as you,but let us not forget the brave men and women that are at war at this very moment in faraway lands.

I most definately believe they have the courage of their convictions to fight and to possibly die to keep this country free. And they are not doing it because there number came up in a lottery either, they volunteered.

And to these brave troops I say THANK YOU!!

As do I my friend. I was speaking in general and NOT in ANY way meaning to demean those who STILL have that courage in their heart. My son and nephew fit that mold. As do you and I. One must have GREAT courage to stand up for what is right!! Popular does NOT equal RIGHT!!
