An Iraq war veteran came back from the war with a back injury (and PTSD) and while the VA paid for his back surgery, they refuse to pay for the rehab recommended by his doctor, or for his mental health therapy. So back in March he got a bunch of ducks to use as therapy. They keep him active, not to mention entertained and calmed down.
Officials in the village of West Lafayette told him to get rid of his ducks in May. They cited him for a minor misdemeanor June 23 for failing to comply. They have a city ordinance there prohibiting, among other things, farm animals and ducks. They made an exception last year for a therapeutic pig, though.
The relevant section of the ordinance states no “chickens, turkeys, ducks, live poultry or fowl of any kind, horses, ponies, cows, calves, goats, sheep, or live animals of any kind except dogs, cats, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds or mice shall be kept in the Village.
Just another day in America, folks!
Here's the full story, and it's pretty interesting.
