Advertisement in paper today for cargo van o/o's for Velocity Express. Checked them out on the web, and apparently they are a courier service, not strictly an expediter. Anybody know anything about them?? Anyone have experience with them?? Thanks in advance.

It seems that courier companies are the latest group to jump in the expedite market. Courier companies have always been near the bottom of the scale when it comes to freight rates.

They typically don't run the freight lanes or freight as expedited carriers do.

Velocity Express is indeed a same-day courier service. Mostly, they use IC's with small trucks and cars for local area courier work. Here(in Portland, OR)they also have drivers deliver to various areas in the Northwest. I imagine it's the same in other metro areas they operate. They do not use "expediters" per se.
I know this stuff because I run my own courier company here in Portland.

From what I have heard about Velocity is they are company owned vehicles, and they don't pay their drivers much.

in chicago velocity express is a local curier(sp) company. they contract bicycle o/o to deliver documents around the downtown area. here, i haven't seen any velocity express trucks or vans.

ps i do see lots of panterii and fecc d units. and every now and then a express1 or conway.

You are right, they are a courier company. They have an office in Monroeville Pa. right off of 376. They have their own company trucks and also use IC's with their own van/cars. The pay is 45% less 5% for administrateive fees BASED ON $1.20 A ZIPCODE MILE (not door to door). You must lease a cell phone (Nextel) from them $80 a month, and buy their cargo insurance at $25.00 a week. DO YOU WANT TO KNOW ANYMORE ABOUT VELOCITY???????????????????
