Not sure what 'your purpose' is, but I'm thinking you should absolutely consider the DH miles in the offers and ask the pay for total miles run. Some carriers would not consider sending their drivers hundreds of miles to pick up a load. Some pay for every mile of DH, some over 50, some over 100, which all works into your total pay per mile and whether the load looks attractive or not. How about another post with the DH and DH pay included in the numbers?

Pjj..i just wanted base contract rate....DH is too much a variable and unreliable source of income...

Deadhead as income is so small a variable it is negligible, but deadhead cost to operate is a real killer. It's how bottom feeders compete while keeping a respectable "rate". I know you understand this. I just have to beat my dead horse, because some still don't understand it.

No doubt EB I make a few hundred bucks every month in DH charges to OFFSET the lower rate...at least E-1 will toss me 10-20 bucks to run 70-90 miles when contractually they don't have to....heck they gave me a $100 to go 217 miles DH...so yes it gets added into the overall pot at the end of the month..

I believe the rates are a result of the van being a non commecial vehicle.
We all know if you were a commercial vehicle you would log and be held accountable as are straights and tractors.
All the more reason for you to demand logging, scaling , and full recognition as a viable commercial hauler.
That would really show the industry your true worth and certainly increase your rates.:D
IMHO.

When I see an increase in the straight truck flat rates I might be inclined to side with you on that....

Not real sure I can agree with your statement. From what I have seen a solo st driver doesn't make much more if any more than a van driver.

I dont know what solo straights make, I am qualified to comment on teams though.
But that would be for another post.:D

Yet I cant help but think regulations would add to the vans validity as a true commercial vehicle.:D

While certain types of freight have taken a dip our over all
milage rate is better than what it was two years ago.
The reefer does help account for that. But of course we are not talking apples to apples, and I wasnt even trying to say
vans and straights should be compared, that was someone elses
words.
I was only commenting on what I believed about the van.:D

i can appreciate that and for a half way normal DH, i don't even figure the DH pay ( i expense DH miles totally different then i imagine anyone else, its a tax cheat thing :D) but when it gets above 150 miles, i ain't takin it unless it is paid at the same rate or it is a real good paying run to begin with...A buck a mile for me in a CV is very far and few inbetween, so as i said, it has to be paying real good to give the company a low paying long DH....

I was home in SD when this load came up...and the pick-up was in the direction I would have travelled anyway to get to Mn...it worked for me...every load is judged on its merits...
