Fastman, i've never heard about stopping at the AL scales. As far as a log book, being under 10K lbs, don't need one, unless you're carrying over 1K lbs of haz-mat.
Dennis, the AG stops that I've stopped at are on I-75 @ mm 446 and on I-95 @ mm 381. Even if you are in a CV you have to stop there, like Ebsprintin says their signs says to.
Out of the dozens of times I've been in and out of FL I've always stopped there and the guy just waves me thru. Only one time I was asked what I was carrying and was asked to see my BOL. Then he told me enjoy the sunshine after I dropped. They are pretty friendly folks there at the AG stops.
As far as scale houses in any other states I do not stop. I just move over a lane to let the oncoming trucks back on the freeway.
