I don't understand. I thought you can put Lucas with syn to. I may be wrong...

I don't get the idea that lucas is any good, that's my point. The stuff... aw, I will let someone else explain

From about a bit more than half way down the page of the link added below comes this comment;

This is the PRIME REASON for not adding in additives into a already good designed oil/ lubricant. Myself, didn't see this coming. It makes perfect sense what happened and would have thought it would help this oil to lubricate at startups but instead, it created more problems than it solved.

What about Additives?

For what it's worth, the last company I worked at bought auction vehicles, cars, vans etc and kept them till the tranny goes out most had near or over 300K and they used Mobil 1 and changed oil every 20K, All these vehicles ran beautifully and they did oil analysis on them....accidents and tranny problems is what killed them.
On a personal note in my personal commuter car a 2005 Scion Xa, mostly highway miles I change the Mobil 1 every 10K
Now on my '68,'69,'70 VW's I change the oil every 3K with dinosaur oil, but they have no oil filters, and synthetic makes em leak too much

VWs DO NOT LEAK. They seep. ;)

I've run mobile one in mine for a while and never had an issue. I had those EMPI valve covers and had fancy oil cooler seals - maybe that's the reason why?

Yeah, remember air cooled VW had very few seals most of the engine including heads are metal/magnesium placed together, hence the reason they leak. After all the years of heating and cooling it takes it toll
Oh and it's not seep VW's mark their spot ;)
BTW how many years ago because new Empi is crap china stuff...sad Empi used to be good stuff

Yes they do. :p

I have gotten into the habit of surfacing the case halves and using Hylomar on them when I reassemble them - it seems to fix a lot of issues.

Know someone who is running dino in his 65 and doing 10k oil changes since his rebuilt. As of last week the thing turned over 90k on the rebuild.

none of my vans have ever seen Lucas...waste of money..IMO

I think you right. But also I don't think that is hurt the engine.... I don't think I will use it again. Mobil 1 full syn should be enough. Our mechanic also said that the lucas fuel additive is a waste of money to. He said he never saw dirty fuel injectors and the gas has enough detergent already.

Opps, I went off topic.

Well when I had my van, I made one trans oil change with of course the filter. The rearend didn't need it because it was replaced 50k before I bought the van.

I don't use the Lucas fuel additive either...just some Power Service and not all the time....since I've gotten off the cheap J fuel my van has run much better....

I don't get it either. If someone wants thicker oil, why don't they just buy heavier oil?

I've yet to have anyone tell me exactly what an oil additive does for them, other than it makes the oil thicker and they use less oil. I don't see why that makes an expensive additive worth while. So, how about it? Anybody else have an answer?
