van owner looking for a driver?

I applied couple a days ago to Express 1 as owner
operator but in this moment I have a big problem my
friend van owner sold the van.
I have a chauffeur licence but not CDL.

Okay now I'm confused! How do you "apply as owner operator" and not own the van? Was this some kind of lease agreement? Please tell me how this would work.

My friend was owner operator and I was a driver on the van.
