when buying used truck 2 things to look for
are tires good and how long before you have replace them
and battery's how old are they
if you will need to buy these i would pass on truck

Those two items wouldn't scare me.
Old tires can let you see how well the previous owner took care of truck. Can give hints of general condition. Do the front tire show front end problems or were those problems hidden by replacement tires ?
All new tires tell you is old tires were so worn that they needed replacing. And will probably have cheaper tires than I will want on there.
If it needs batteries, thats fine. I can put in new, high quality batteries.
I look at condition. Is the wiring all cobbled up? Are plastic pieces all broken or cracked ?
Does it look like better quality replacement parts were used ?
Maint records are great. If overall condition is really good, the previous driver/ owner probably took good care of it.

First thing I would do is pull an ECM report before I even looked at the truck...

I would LOOK at a truck to decide if I should request an ECM printout.
I wouldn't consider purchasing a used truck without seeing the ECM printout.

I sold new and used cars for 6 months in a large dealership to learn how the process works from the other side of the desk.
It has helped me in my purchasing.

Well I would still pull ECM report because if the core is not there it does not matter what the truck looks like. To begin with I would be looking for an aero truck first and have the spec's that I want when that truck is found I want an ECM to see the trucks history. They we can move on to beauty.

Both are important in wives.
The ECM is important in trucks.

It's a chicken-egg thing.
Not interested in a truck with a bad ECM report or one that looks like its been poorly maintained.
I've spent months buying one used truck. Been very particular.
