how come loud pipes are okay but a jake is forbidden in so many areas,
the jake is there to slow you down it is part of the engine and I think it is more important to stop a 40 ton truck then it is to hear loud exhaust pipes from a motorcycle, and you can't even use your horn in some parts of FL. unless it is a emergency, but a loud a$$ motorcycle is just find and dandy

Jake brakes and other forms of engine retarders are banned in many urban areas because of the same mentality expressed by the "Loud Pipes Save Lives" biker crowd. STRAIGHT PIPES MAKE TOO MUCH NOISE! A Jake brake used in conjuntion with mufflers is fairly quiet. For law enforcement purposes it is easier to ban all retarders rather than just the loud ones.

Is a Jake brake, muffled or straight really necessary when entering a truck stop or city limits on a flat grade? Coming down into Salt Lake City seems to be a legitimate place to use a retarder. But because of the loud pipes crowd it is banned.
