When they started the construction of the refinery Upgrade and the Pipeline from the Wood River IL area there were over 4000 transient workers in our town and around town, we had trailers and Campers and Campgrunds open everywhere, LOTS of money was made providing catered food, Laundry, Lodging, and delivery services. Its wound down around here but the estimate was that with the construction, and payrolls over 7 BILLION dollars was sent into our local economy. Many new restaurants, Motels etc were built over the last 4 years. The early morning caravans out to the Work areas were huge....traffic was often routed and stopped to allow the workers truck caravans to move and get to the jobsites...
