two ideas for better cooling of the CV

Wow, that looks perfect. Good size, grommets all the way around, sturdy yet still looks light-weight. You da man.
Actually there are no grommets .... :D

But it is padded and definitely has some insulating value in practice - lying in my bunk and reaching around behind the curtain I have at times felt a very significant temperature difference (more than 10 to 15 degrees)

This the one we're talking about?
"The lightweight superinsulator for warmth and protection. Made of same materials developed for NASA/Apollo space missions. Reflects and retains up to 90% of radiated body heat. Compact, durable, flexible even in sub-freezing temperature. Windproof, waterproof, grommets in all corners easy to clean, just wipe off dirt, fade resistant colors, full edge binding, radar reflective material. Measures 82" x 50". Inside colors may vary."

That's from the site that you linked.
Did you get a defective one without the grommets?

In the area of cooling, I am still trying to figure out a way to run my small generator without having to chain it under the van when sleeping. I am considering building and attaching a 24" wide 12" deep and 24" high tool box type strucure to the left rear door. It would extend about 5" past the rear bumper. I plan to store and run the generator from there. Next is to find a used roof top RV AC unit. I have not seen anyone do this rear door addon as yet. Any ideas or suggestions? Is it legal to extend past the rear bumper?

I have seen what you are talking about and when I get my generator I am doing the same thing. You can get premade 18x18x24 under trailer tool box that will do the trick. Mounted on the back door. The one I saw was on an E-1 van that was red. The only thing I didn't like about his set up was he had an external 6 gallon tank mounted on top. I am going to replace my fuel pump just because of age but when I do I am replacing it with a fuel pump that has a 3rd line on it like they use on rv's and going to run a line to the back of the van with a quick disconnect, then just connect it when I want to use it. As long as the van has gas so will the generator.

I could be wrong but I think you can extend past your bumper up to 3' before you have to flag it.
