Try Hours

I am new to driving, at least compaired to my Husband, and we are trying to find out information on Try Hours. We have our own tractor, and with what I have been reading, they are offering a really good pay per mile at a 1.05 per mile. Does anyone know anything about them? Has anyone had any dealing with them?

I drove a D unit for them two years ago. It was one of their company trucks and I had a hard time making any money. Lasted about 7 months and had a real hard time getting my security deposit back. It may have been a lot different if I was an owner operator then. It's been 2 years and a lot can change. You should talk to some of their drivers. I used to run into them fairly often at the Toledo Flying J.

peachypoo, i can't give you any info on try hours, but if you own your own tractor(E unit) you should look around at some of the bigger carriers. i think you will find that you can do much better than $1.05 per mile. DD

PP - Try ours...FedEx Custom Critical, that is...Altho not a tractor owner ourselves, my observation of tractor deployment (E - unit) is that a team in a tractor is highly sought after, rarely sits in wait of a load offer and, is compensated well above the $1.05 you find agreeable.

Ok, a team at higher then a 1.05 a mile. The 1.05 a mile I was told is empty or loaded, and all dispatched miles. The other companies I have talked to promise 1.45 IF you have a full trailer. Otherwise it is 92 cents a mile. That is why I am thinking a 1.05 a mile with permits paid for, and fuel tax, where would I be going wrong?

I don't have the info for you but the "ask the recruiter" forum will get you started on the answers you seek. See also EXPO discussions. Perhaps we'll see you there.

You didn!t mention how old your tractor is.Many companies will not sign on older equipment as they consider the equipment to be unreliable. Also do you have a sleeper or is it a day cab?
Try Hours is more of a regional carrier ,if you want to run the 48 you should look into FDXCC,Panther,Landstar Express America possibly even Tri State.

The tractor is 3 years old. I know that right now they are regional. I have personally had dealing with Landstar, and I don't like them. My Husband has had dealings with Tri State, and he doesn't like the way that he was treated. I really don't mind the regional. I have been all over the country. I like that part of the country.

Expediting companies are not all that different from one another. If you've been unhappy with your dealings and with how you were treated with the two carriers you named, what do you expect to find in other carriers that will make you happy?

My dealing with Landstar is internal, not from the driver's side. As for my husband. Love him to death, but he is an old time driver. If he isn't moving he isn't happy. He sat with Tri State according to him too much.

I worked for them about 4 years ago, driving the company Cargo Van. Sat alot, and saw alot of the Try Hours company & O/O straight trucks sitting. But, that was 4 years ago.....

Might want top talk to John Mueller at Premium Logistics in Toledo. He was the Safety man for TH when I was there, and he hired me.

Thanks for all of the information ya'll, I have been digging through all of it. The one thing I don't understand is why would I want to talk to John Mueller at Premium Logistics when I was asking about Try Hours not Premium.

I think what they were saying is that John Mueller was the recruiter at TH - now he's at PTL.
