Truckers UNwelcome

After having done hotel management for 11 years prior to becoming a trucker, I could've totally understood, if we hadn't spent any money at their establishment, OR we were disturbing their guests by being there. But, since we DID spend our cash, and we weren't even in the hotel lot, but behind the restaurant, disturbing noone, except the RAC ego system........I didn't understand that at all. Like I said....Tacoma will starve if left up to me. Trucker UNfriendly west coast....just like the garbage on the east coast. Sure whine and cry when they run out of toilet paper and pampers, though. Just giving people a "heads' up" about where NOT to go....just save your money for a bigger sleeper, and we'll cook, shower, and do it all without any services being necessary. I know this much....we CAN live without THEM, but they can't live without US! ;)

I would say after we spent about $100.00 in their restaurant that day, and the restaurant folks said it was OK to stay there.......should've been enough. BUT, since the night auditor and the RAC waited until the restaurant closed....then called the police, tells its' own story, doesn't it? Little "power play" from people who are otherwise UNimportant. Paid alot to be there, I think......but couldn't spend one night. Onan and Proheat only things running.....not in hotel lot either. Nobody in restaurant lot either......not one soul.

Phil, It's kind of sad to think someone has to explain why they are doing something to someone on this forum when it is of a personal nature.

Never complain, never explain. - Henry Ford II

But I, like many on here, like to complain. So it applies to me as well. Tho, I like explaining too. :D

I'm not sure what you mean by this comment. Care to explain? On the surface of this comment...I'm offended. I don't LIKE some of the TS on the east coast, but I don't think they're any worse than anywhere else in the country. There are very few good TS ANYWHERE.

As to parking in a PRIVATE parking lot.....that is JUST what it is...PRIVATE....for customers only. You stopped being a customer the moment you paid your bill. Whether you had permission from a waitress or cashier OR even management...without a written statement with full name and phone #...you're SOL with security or the police. Have you seen the way some of these drivers leave a parking area when they're done? Do you wonder why we aren't wanted in PRIVATE parking areas?

We've actually found some great places to park where VERY few other trucks park. We share very little of that info with other than good friends. That insures that the next time we go....it won't smell of urine and be filled with trash. Whether that trash is from the east coast, west coast, or anywhere in between.

You stopped being a customer the moment you paid your bill.

to quote another EO member -

Wrong Wrong Wrong

YOU stop being a customer when you go to their competition.

Retailers and restaurants should ALWAYS look at anyone who is a patron and pays a bill for good and services as a customer - ALWAYS.

It is part of real customer service.

Too bad that this does not happen at most places.

The very sad fact is no one demands quality of service and this is what you get. If the manager says it is alright to park there, Security should listen to the manager if the lot is owned by or leased to the business, they should have the final say because it is their responsibility.

AND I do find some of the worst Truck Stops in the east... but they are all over as you say.

Ditto on the east coast truck stops. Its a strain to find any that are decent, but there are a few left.

Greg, I took my rolex to a jewelry store in Dayton,Oh to have it cleaned, they sent it to rolex to be cleaned, rolex also replaced a few parts, took about 30 days and cost me over 900 dollars.

Dang, have the prices gone up that much? I was quoted $500 to replace my crystal and have a thorough cleaning on my watch, but that was November 2006. I guess everything keeps going up in price.

There aren't many, but one I've been to a couple times is in Wilton, NY, just north of Saratoga Springs on I-87. It doesn't have a lot of amenities, but the showers have been clean the couple times I've used them and they don't cost an arm and a leg either. There's not much parking in front of the building and I don't like to take up space in the truck lot with my van, but I've parked right in front of the building and spent a couple nights and they didn't bother me. Also, they're kind of lax about enforcing New York's idling ban. I think the place is called Scotty's, or something like that.
