Me and my untrained staff of professional friends are starting a union for truckers. We don't know what were doing or what issues to tackle that are important to the O/O. I already have the best collective bargining deal in the world. If I don't like what i am doing I move on to the next job.
Honestly, I don't see how a union could benefit owner operators. Each individual O/O is different. What would be good for one would be diasterous for another. There would be no way a union could represent all its members in collective bargining with the various expediting companies.
You would also have to get the companies to agree to a "closed shop". One in which they would only lease members of the union. I doubt if they would do that. Without the closed shop the companies would just starve out the union workers and hire "Scabs" in their place. Without a union contract they would have every right to do that.
Instead of everyone putting time and money into a union that is destined to go the way of XFL, The Edsel and the Carriers of Paul Shore and Steve Guttenburg. Try to recruit for OOIDA. Call them and see how you can help. Volunteer your services. A strong drivers assoication would benefit us much more than something that would divide us in the end.

Thanks Bigfoot! I don't know what happened but I was actually trying to be serious when I responded...lol :+ It does happen now and again...lol
I still read the forum when I get a chance. A lot of things I don't know what to say in reponse so i just read it and keep my big cake hole shut...lol Once in a while I see something that strikes my fancy and I give my two cents.
I agree "IF" is just two big to get past. Example: "IF" a frog had wings it wouldn't bump his butt on the pavement as he hopped.:+ "IF" I was smart and good looking I would have a life and a real job...lol
To me finding one established organisation and everyone standing behind it would be more effective. Think about it; "IF" every trucker belonged to OOIDA think of the clout truckers would have in Washington. Bet they would think twice about passing new taxes or laws that would keep you from doing business.
(Then we can add to the pile "IF" all truckers would take their time and vote in their local and national elections......)
