My Husband just started driving this Sunday... last night in Quebec the roof blew off and is gone from his 102 x 22 box... he is on his way to Boston, any ideas where he should go to get a new roof.. unfortunately he will be dead headed until he gets it fixed.:-(

What brand is the box? I'd call the box manufacturer and ask them who they recommend.

It was getting dark when he tried to find that out for me. On the cab I know Alumi-Bunk did the sleeper, would they be same company that made the box?? Do you know where manufacturer name would be?... thanks ... first week as a Trucker's wife has been nerve racking!!!

They probably are the box maker too. Do you have the VIN number of the truck? If you have that call Alumibunk and they should be able to look it up and say for certain. Is this a new truck? It's hard to imagine the roof blowing off. That must have been a bad storm or a defective box. Good luck with it.

GOOD LUCK on trying to reach someone!!! Don’t try calling Detroit.

‘B-O-J’ (bunk-o-junk ‘aka’ alumi bunk) reads these posts daily and now that they know another of their truck owners is having a problem they may become ghosts as usual.

The only consolation is it was the box, and B-O-J doesn’t build the boxes, they out source to a box builder.

Tell hubby to buy a large tarp, cover the box-top, and keep on trucken!!!

well i can tell you that after having the "pleasure" of visiting thier facility in canada for repairs,i want you to know that they DO build thier own boxes.but seeing as how this this is a used truck from FYDA,it sounds like you are going to have to deal with them.but that is not a bad thing,at least you will be dealing with a reputable business.also about using the tarp,AB's boxes are so flimsy that even with the roof on you can see the sides rippling as you drive down the road.my guess is that if your husband drives any great distance with this roof panel missing,he could end up driving a flatbed.

If it is a used truck it is likely not covered by a warranty. If by chance that it is, Fyda and or AB are your first calls.

If it is not covered, get the yellow pages if in Boston, and call trailer repair and or dealers.
A few would be, Great Dane, Kentucky, Wabash, ect.
Another might be Supreme Boxes. They have alot of dealers
A frame and translucent roof can be installed pretty quickly. If the framing is there and just the translucent roofing is gone, I would fix it in Boston.
Since the framing is usually rivoted on, I would be surprised if all of the framing came off.

Good luck.

Hey, this is fun, you Truckers are great .. thanks for the advice.. The Sales guy at FYDA said that they were not responsible and did advise me not to waste my time calling Alumi-Bunk. We did get hold of Middlesex Truck & Coach in Roxbury, Ma, unfortunately the can not fix it until Monday, he is also waiting for the insurance company to agree to pay minus the deductible...to add to his frustration this morning on the side of the road after spending the night he needed to get the battery jumped ... Please tell us that it does get better and he is just have beginner's bad luck.

Since his batteries died and we aren't to winter yet, have a load test done on them. They are likely shot. Test and replace if necessary while it isn't 10 degrees outside.

Good luck on the box!

Tell him to hang in there, it gets better.

After reading all this I know one thing. Neither Fyda nor Alumi-bunk will be getting my business. IMHO, Fyda should have either seen the problems with the box or stood behind it when it blew off. Box tops don't just fly off, even inferior ones, without there being problems to begin with I would think. Now their batteries are shot too. which shows they did not to a through inspection. This is not the first time someone has posted about Fyda not backing what they sale:

Are all truck dealers this bad or is Fyda just worse than average?

Perhaps a discussion with Fyda of implied warranties of suitability for purpose would result in their accepting at least a portion of the blame and costs. If the truck was purchased within the past couple of weeks as it sounds from the post they have an implied warranty of suitability absent of a specific exclusion of same. Even with a specific exclusion it is likely a court would find them responsible. Box roofs aren't supposed to fly off in a couple of weeks. I'd offer them the opportunity to generate tons of positive feedback and points via proactive customer service versus the opportunity to generate tons of negative publicity along with a trip to small claims court.

They should do this after getting the truck to the repair place and inspecting the roof for clues as to why it happended. If they are lucky, there would be clear evidence that this was an ongoing problem pior them buying the truck.

What Fyda and all dealers should understand is that the rules of the game have changed. Publicity, both good and bad, no longer move at "word of mouth" speed, but at the the speed of light. The Internet has changed the way you do business and treat customers. An unhappy customer can write their expierences and post on many forums or even in extreme cases, start their own anti Internet site. The reverse is also true, a happy customer can also post their good expierences on the net. Even if Fyda is completely guitless, and that the roof and batteries were "freak" acidents, sometimes you have to bite the bullet keep the customer happy. A happy customers will come back for more business.

Suppose a vehicle behind him swirved, ran off the road, hit a tree hmm whose gona pay now the superrich truck driver????? Yeah right.

If that were the case, and the fallen parts hit the guy behind, YES! The truck driver would have to pay. Every driver is responsible for his or her truck and the load they haul. No matter what, a driver should catch this problem while doing their per trip, BUT! How many newer drivers on the road today even know what a per trip is, let alone do one? OR! How many older drivers get comfortable with their trucks and not do them?

well the battery died again, while waiting to have the roof fixed he will be sure to be on the phone with FYDA. He also reread some paper work from when he picked up his truck from FYDA and it said right on the paper work that when the guy found it in the lot the battery was dead, he didn't think much of it at the time, I guess the knowledge of questioning things comes with experience.

What year is this truck you purchased from FYDA. I find it very hard to believe that the roof just blew off. Can you please email me pictures of the roof damage at [email protected]

HI,
My husband is still in Boston getting the roof repaired. He had to wait for the insurance adjuster prior to any repairs being done, hopefully he will be on the road again today. I will have him call you when he gets in town. He does not have a computer yet so he has not read the communications that I have had on the forum. I'm sure there will be a lot of sorting out of the situation and I would rather leave that up to him.
thank you!
