Are there any decent truck stops up here you'd like to recommend?
Any truck stops up here you avoid?

My personal favorite is the Milton,ON Fifth wheel. Not because it's a great T/S but 'cause it's centrally located to most of our carrier's shippers. During the slow waits, there's plenty to do nearby. One of our favorite canadian restaurant chains is across the street.

That Flying J in or around London is still as nice as when it opened,it's non smoking and a good location.I like the Swiss Chalet it's a chain with some real good chicken,it's more for the van drivers cause there parking challenged.I am a non smoker so it's a plus,if you smoke i think you gotta to the T/A about 25 miles east on the 401,i've never been there so i can't rate the place.

The Jail????????

ha ha ha

The Fifth Wheel has been there a long time. It was the first full service truckstop west of Toronto.
Truckstops used to be a 24 hour restaurant with maybe one diesel pump. Tires would be serviced by the local tire shop. There would be no other ammenities.
The Fifth Wheel changed that in Southern Ontario.

Swiss Chalet is an Ontario favourite.
I think it still gives good value for the money. I've never been served half cooked (possibly poisonous) chicken at any Swiss Chalet.
Smoking is not permitted in any restaurants or any public places in Ontario. If you smoke; you gotta go outside!
I did see; at a Tim Hortons in Simcoe (down on Highway 3) a special smokers room. Simcoe is still the heart of Ontario's tabacco belt. The smokers are die-hards down there. (no pun intended
;)

I agree with Terry - I always enjoyed the 5th Wheel in Milton. They have awesome old world breads, soups etc.

Also, there is (was?) a fuel stop on the 401 west of Kitchener that server the WORLD'S BEST CHILI.

I live in the heart of Cincinnati chili - I've had Texas chili...in Texas. But that little fuel stop had the BEST HOMEMADE chili I have ever tasted.

Somebody say Amen?:D

I like the potential of your newest sites. You're too bashful about promoting. Kudos.

I like the Flying J in London. I also like the Flying J in Napanee. But, the Wifi in Napanee is slow. The TA at kilometer marker 230 has a brand new service center that is nice.

Usually, if I've made a delivery around Oshawa or Pickering, I'll stop at the Husky at exit 399. Brock Road exit. Just to have a place to stay. I don't want to spend any more time than I have to in Canada. I hate metrics. I hate converting money. Fortunately, as opposed to Quebec, Ontario speaks great English, eh?

I went online and found a listing of all the Ontario truck stops. I pasted it into Word and have it for reference on my laptop. Just in case I need a place to get to that isn't on my normal route.

Sheesh.......
You hate metrics; ...well that I can understand; but after about 30 years of using them you get to figure things out;
Speed....
100 (kph) = 60 MPH
90 = 55
80 = 50
70 = 45
60 = 40
50 = 30

Temps
30 =80 F
20 =68
10 =50
0 =32
-18 =0F

Volume
well. this is kinda tough but 75.9/ litre gas is cheaper than 84.9/litre gas

Weight
1 kilogram = 2 pounds
500 grams = 1 pound
250 grams = 1/2 a pound
McDonalds sell Quarter Pounders

Distance
Football field = 110 yards and there are only 3 downs.

You are too funny.

Ok on the metrics. I just look at my speedometer and determine the speed. 2 demerits if you go 120 KPH and $100 fine. Is that $75 US?

I prefer not to purchase fuel in Canada. But thanks for filling me in about the difference in price.

I am trying to be light-hearted.
As far as 120KPH; you'll probably get run off the freakin' road, at least around T.O., for going that slow!
They do post the fines on signs.
I will try and pay attention when Cam Wooley and the Road Rangers announce a "Blitz" and post it here.
I agree wholeheartedly about not buying fuel up here.
It was signed at 73.9 cents per litre at the Husky at Hwy 410 and CourtneyPark Drive in Mississauga this (Saturday Nov 6/04) morning.

Hey Terry; thanks for stickling.
My speed conversion was based on what the roads USED to be before metrics!
What used to be a 60 MPH zone; is now 100. The 401 was 70 MILES PER for a short time just before the infamous ARAB OIL EMBARGO of 1973.
40MPH zones were switched to 60 etc.
And to be a REAL stickler it's 2.2046.
30 degrees C is likely a SMOG ALERT DAY so shut the truck off!

Happy to be stickled.

If you deliver east of Toronto the Fifth Wheel On P401x431 is great.Good food.
An amusing note about this TS. Every time we have been there,we notice it is a favorite stop for tour busses.Mostly Japaneese tourist,running around taking pictures of the "Big Rigs".They breese right by my little six wheeler.

Thanks for that one. After delivering in Belleville, or near there, this would be better than traveling east to Napanee and closer than Husky at 399.

Have you tried the 10 ACRE Truckstop at the Loyalist-Wallbridge Road exit (X538)?
They've been there since 1977 and have just switched last month from Shell to ESSO for fuel.
ESSO is updating many of their truck stops / cardlock locations in Canada.
Esso up here is EXXON down there.

Husky are all over Canada. Might be hard to find down east (maritimes) Irvings on the east coast. There are a lot of Card locks some worth mentioning..Petro Can. Dryden Ontario. Clean Showers after USE. Bring a towel. Most Canadian Truck STOPS do not supply towels for showers.
If your out west, Winnpipeg. Flying J to be build as well as Thunder Bay, Grimsby,Ontario, Calgary,Ab and Edmonton,Ab. In Edmonton the Road King. J to be built across the street. Some Huskies Very gross,other not bad. x(

RE: Truck Stops -Husky's

Hi Y'all

My favorite Ontario t/s is the Woodstock T/A on the 401 exit 230. Since I am in a van it is also very easy to head up Sweaburg Rd into Woodstock which is a really neat little city. On Dundas St there are blocks and blocks of quaint little shops and restaurants.

Plus it is a good stop to make if you are trying to fax to the broker if the attempt at the shipper was constantly busy.
