Ksdk.com. I-70 near Greenville IL traffic slowing due to numerous deer next to and on highway. The 41 year old mother stops as deer move in front of her and the tractor trailer rear ends the car killing her and 2 young daughters

Something similar happened on I-70 near Dayton, several years ago. One semi shoved a car up under the trailer of another. Killed a young mother and her 2 infant children. Both incidents are very sad......

So unfortunate that things like this have happened, but, I often wonder if it could of been prevented. Is it just me, or Am I noticing more and more vehicles, big trucks included, following dangerously close to the vehicle in front of them, and sometimes, very often, using their vehicle to "push" the vehicle in front of them out of the way? I am even seeing big trucks doing it to other big trucks.I wonder if any of the drivers who rear-ended the vehicle in front of them in both of these accidents were given a "Following too close-assured distance" citation? There is no excuse for following too close, period.

That's funny. If I give any reasonable (or sometimes not very reasonable) space in front of me, it gets swallowed up by some jackwagon. I see it happening all the time. So yes, there is an excuse. And if you say that you should keep backing off, as these jackwagons continue to do this, somehow I wonder if you end up going backwards.

Its one thing at slow speed in traffic jam it is another thing to be tailgating/following to close at 55-75 mph

I have been tailgated by 4 wheelers then they passed and slowed down all while I had the cruise set. So many times you can't leave yourself an out. But yes there are also the guys who tailgate other trucks and at same time cuss the driver in front on the radio for running the speed limit.

I'm usually a right lane, cruise control kind of driver. Yes, there are a lot of times a person will cut in front of me, and I have to kill the cruise. But, it is usually a situation where they are getting off at an upcoming exit. So, yes, I do back out of it for a while.Or jump in the left lane, if it is empty of traffic, until he gets off, then I jump back in the right lane, and continue as planned.

You're not one of those drivers who runs balls to the wall in the left lane for .85 cpm, are you?..

I've had instances where I get blown away by a driver leased to a cheaper company going down the road, and, ironically, I get to my destination, a few minutes early, and there he is, sitting at the same gate I need to go in.He comes back to me, "What took you so long", laughing, and then says, "they're not open yet".....All that rush to wait for them to open...lol...

My truck is governed at 65. If there are 3 lanes, I run the middle. Too many don't know what merging entails, so I try to stay out of the right lane, if I can. And no, I wouldn't get out of bed for .85/mi.
