Monfort was a meat packing company in Colorado. They ran a private fleet of tractor/trailers hauling meat east to Chicago and New York City. They ran hard and fast. The left lane of I-80 became known as the Monfort Lane. It was rumored that Monfort had lawyers and money to bail out their drivers and get them back on the road a.s.a.p.

Nope , a grain trailer is a hopper bottom . A covered wagon is a flatbed with plywood sides and canvas top .

Monfort shipped a lot of boxed meat too . I'd drop my trailer there and go to a motel while they moved the trailer around the plant loading different types of meat .

Hmmmm, Guess it either went over everyones head or they're not familier with the type of pocket rocket to which I was refering.
I cracked MYSELF up with that one. maybe I was just too tired.

I did some meat hauling in 1981, mostly out of IBP in Dakota City, Neb. I remember seeing some Monfort trailers there. I don't know if IBP bought them out or if the trailers belonged to some other company. But they had the big ol' orange "Monfort of Colorado" on the sides.
