HULL, Iowa (KTIV) - Two truck drivers, including one from Sioux City, are sent to the hospital after a head on-collision of two semis in northwest Iowa.
The accident happened on US Highway 18 near Hull around three o'clock yesterday afternoon.
57-year-old Gene Sardeson of Sioux City became trapped in his semi after the accident and became engulfed in flame.
Sardeson was taken to a Sioux Center Hospital before being airlifted to a burn center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
31-year-old John Berscheid was taken to a hospital in Sheldon.
Authorities say Berscheid's semi crossed the center line, and Sardeson attempted to avoid Bersheid's semi.
Both semis collided head-on.
The accident remains under investigation.

My Prayers are with both drivers Gene Sardeson is my Second Cousin.

In case any one seen this my 2nd cousin Gene Sardeson
will be in the hospitial for 3 months getting skin grafts, he has 3 degree burns on 16% of his body from the fuel spray fire that raged in his cab.

The more I look at this the more I wonder. Is it realy worth driving team and putting your life in someone elses hands.

He is a regional driver and drives single and I see what has happend to him.

My great Aunt told me that Genes wife said enough is enough and he comming off the road. Gene is only 57yrs young and been trucking since he was 18 he started out local then went to regional.

Hopefully Your cousin will pull through okay.

I would never drive team for any reason with anyone other than someone in my immediate family.
