is true you can turn down a load and keep your board position at Panther... at Tristate you are down for 8 hrs but if they have a load they can throw it to you and if you refuse you'll get another 8 hrs vacation

Yep...ya don't go to the bottom of the list, but more that likely the dispatcher on the next load will not call you b/c of a refusal...:(

We are independent contractors. It just not fair and elegant to put you in 8 hour forced brake because you decline a load.I called that forced dispach. We have to make our way to make money. Each of us know if that load is good for us or no.Let us decide and don't put us in the dog house!

I refused a reduced rate load a few weeks ago. I told the dispatcher not to bother with giving me a refusal. She said there was no penalty for turning down a reduced rate load.

I check my availability status and found I was hit with "refusing a reduced rate load". My board position stayed the same. I called back and was told if only the last 5 digits of a pro show on the refusal then it doesn't count as a refusal. Okay, cat logic.

Yesterday I turned down another cut rate load and my availability shows a "refused reduced rate load" with the full pro number and the entry above that shows "refused a reduced rate load" with only a 5 digit pro number.

I agree with Easy! If a dispatcher were to skip over you because of a refusal you could stay out of the queue indefinitely and not know it. At least under the old system if you refused a load you went to the bottom and started to work back up.

I never received a QC message regarding this.

I was first out with my company, turned down three loads, and remained first out. Of course my dispatcher is the most understanding person I have ever met.

When they do that your not a contractor, your an employee. Roberts Express did away with putting people out of service, after you turned down two loads in a row. I may be wrong but I think they was taken to court over it. DaveKC and Steve can remember this.

I am always first out with my company. I hardly ever refuse runs because there are no cut rate loads, always full rate loads. The owner of my company is very understanding also.

Well after a lil sleep and double checking my statements, I was correct, you can refuse ANY load and not lose your current board position, BUT you will be hit with a refusal if it falls in the eligible refusal group, thus being said I stand behind my earlier statement...its a bunch of crap! Soguess till that is changed, keep an eye on your position and if you refuse a load, make sure they dont bump you out of your spot, and if they do...call and have it changed.

It can work out good if you give it a chance. Over the years in this business I really didn't like change that much. When FedEx rolled out DVA I wasn't for it at all. As time went on, I seen that we made more money with DVA and loved it. Its kinda sounds a little like what Panther may be doing. I really don't know as of yet. Loads may be offered to the truck based on how long the truck has been sitting without a load. If you have been sitting for 36 hours without a load offer. Then you get a load offer of 150 miles you won't lose your status on the board if you turn that down. That next load may be a 2500 mile load. You also have to remember Panther does look at your stats when it comes to giving the best loads sometimes.

People that cherry pick may not get the good loads because of there stats. So many things to think about. Lets see how it folds out. :)

Sorry, but not true. Don't know where you heard that one from. With Tri State once you refuse a legitimate load you are placed on the 8 hour refusal status. Once on refusal you can refuse as many loads as you want withing that 8 hours and not get more hours added on, only the 8 hours for the initial refusal. Now once those 8 hours are up and you refuse another load yes, you do go on another 8 hours break, but only if you are back to full available status.

I agree this system is "forced dispatch". Its like them saying "we're not gonna make you take this load but if you don't, these are the consequences you have to suffer". Thats total BS, but I learned to deal with it and work my way around it when I can.

Does your company also pay you 100% of the load revenue?

I get 95% with 5% going to the freight factoring service, but I do get to set the rate that the company charges the customer.

Another new and great thing (AT PANTHER ) is that if you take a short run ,after you finish it you will be number one on the board (even if you were number 10) and you can take this position to any other board. For example if you number 5 in Indianapolis and you take a short one after you deliver you can go in the Chicago board and you will be number one .First out position.I would like to have this at TriState to.It's a win win situation. You take the short load but you have a reward after.
