Been searching for the better part of the morning and haven't found what I'm looking for yet.

Graduated from the local tech school with my Class B earlier this month. Hazmat is approved and in the mail. FAST card is still processing. Getting qualified for Panther now. Definitely looking to drive team for a fleet owner, with a long-term goal to become an O/O.

My big question is "How does it all work?" For example: If I become an "independent contractor" driving for the fleet owner...

Who contacts me(us) with load offers? Does the carrier contact the fleet owner who decides which loads to give us? Or does the carrier contact us directly and we have to make the decision?

I hear of fuel cards being used as a bank account through which drivers are paid. But if it's not a same-household team, are the drivers given separate cards or would it be the responsibility of the individuals team members to keep track of what part of the "account" is theirs?

The carrier will contact you with load offers. Who makes the decision would be you in most cases. A good fleet owner might give you some guidelines to help the process.

The company pays the fleet owner. He pays each of you seperatly. How he gets that pay to you can vary.

If the fleet owner allows it you may get a fuel advance on the Comdata card. Not sure how that would work with a two household team.
