Sitting here in Indiana in 15 degree weather I have to ask. Why would anyone move to Toledo? I can think of plenty of places south of there or here for that matter that would work well.

Now if your crazy enough to live your winters where OVM does I guess I could understand moving to Toledo. :D

But of course there is an ulterior motive: Once I officially move out here, I expect Anne to go with me to the Red Wells! I have a weakness for mashed potatoes & beef...particularily if it's prime rib. :)

You know Anne IS a little on the wild side? Eh..*L*

No problem, Mindi, anytime you need to just give us a call.

Frog Leg Inn does serve frog legs but it is not there specialty. It is a French restaurant, the owners moved here from France. Nice people.

No turtle soup? you have no idea what you are missing, you should try it. Also muskrat stew, another local favorite.

Hey!! Anne is the best and is as HONEST as the day is long!! Can't go wrong with Anne in your corner!! But OVM knows that !! :D

Hey Joe, rememeber Drouillards, south of Monroe at the Toledo Beach exit of 75!?!? Best turtle soup i ever had!! Its long gone but man i loved eatin there!!!:D

Sure do. Or at least I think I do. I remember going down that way when I was a kid. Turtle soup and muskrat in season, if we are talking about the same place. Have you been to "Trappers" on M125? They serve Turtle soup, not bad either. They are starting to get a reputation.

Well if you like prime rib and you move to Ohio, check out Lyons, OH.
It's a little one horse town with a gas station and a BAR. The bar makes the best prime rib and the name of the place is easy to remember, Lyons Bar. A LOT of people like to eat there on the weekend, a reservation will keep you from waiting. Lyons is 30 miles west of Toledo off of US 20, north on on O-109 and then west on O-120. Just a nice drive fro a sunday dinner, but watch out for the deer in the fall.

Pepe's--Mexican restaurant used to be pretty good. Haven't been there in a while--on Sylvania Ave if I remember right.

Ferdo's -Mediteranean over by the University is good.

They ruined the original Packo's when they remodeled it. My Grandpa used to play in the Cakewalkin Jass Band that was a regular fixture there.

Toledo also has all of those restaurants right down on the riverfront (Real Seafood and a few others). If you have kids, Cosi is pretty cool and the art museum there is top notch.

No appology needed! Anyone who's met me knows how much I love to eat. Besides, it's helpful to know the good places to eat, shop, entertainment, etc. Moving to OH will be like moving to a whole new country for me..after all, I've lived in NY all my life and we all know how 'different' NY can be from the other states. I truely appreciate all this feedback from all of you. I'm still amazed that there are eateries that actually make & serve turtle & muskrat soups. I've seen frog legs on menus before but never turtle or muskrat soups.

I have never tried them there. I get them homemade so I kinda don't look for them on the menu when I do go there. I will have to make a point to check them out next time. Thanks Rocket!!

The best item at Packo's is the cabbage rolls...hands down.

Mmmmmm cabbage rolls, that's a gotta try for me:D
But we actually do drive from Fort Wayne, In to Maumee to go to PF Changs, and also drive to Toledo for Carrabbas, and the Spaghetti Warehouse. We have been wanting to go to the Zoo, maybe in the summer. Only about 1 1/2 hours from my house.

Seeing how I haven't found a place yet, do any of you know if there's a place where I can rent an efficieny apartment around the area?

My first apartment was off of Alexis road and was $200/month--definitely no frills, but it was a pretty safe area. Had one off of Secor for a while that was a 2bdrm for $475---but that's going back a few years. Ya might want to include some of the towns just over the border like Bedford or Lambertville in your search.

I'd avoid the south end of town Any of the burbs are fine.

Good luck!
