I learned by walking back to the truck at Walmart from Chipotle's Mexican Grill :D
I indulged in a 1 pound steak burrito with black beans
and red chili sauce..yum
Problem is I used to look Val Kilmer (face and body a little different) and today I am the spitting image of William Shatner.
Don't get me wrong as I don't need an vehicle inspection mirror to assist me at the urinal but I have put on 30 lbs in 5 years..
Point of post is I have to drop 30 to become my old svelte self and I want to well just feel better..
Anybody tried a diet small but multiple portions to boost metabolism with success??
Did you use pre-package meals?

If you have leveled off and not gaining anymore, it shouldn't take much to lose it slowly. This works for me and I lose 20- 30 each time, then I go off of it and put it back on each time.
I do not cook in the truck and eat at truck stops and fast food, so it is a battle. When I get motivated, I buy at least 2 pieces of fruit each day usually an apple and a banana from the truckstops. I eliminate all fried food and cheese from burgers. Things that I order- subway low fat subs, taco bell lower calorie menu, wendy's chili with onions added. I still get my burgers but no mayo cheese or fries. I try and order grilled chicken sandwiches with no mayo. If I order in the truckstop, and the meal comes with fries, I substitute a baked potato with no butter, and I try and use less sour cream (but that is a battle). I lose 3- 4 lbs a week whenever I get motivated, then like clockwork, I go back to my old ways and put it back on.
I try and drink more water and lIced tea with equal or sweet n low, or coke zero.

Enough of this I'm on my way in for the "not your mom's BLT and a tanker Regular Coke, maybe I will get motivated tomorrow.

It works if you stick with it, good luck!

i began to lose wieght in Feb. I don't feel we need to follow, or buy a "diet plan", or the pre packaged food. I have lost 20 ls. by cutting out sugar..soda, candy, pastry, etc.. and eating salads, some subway sandwiches, no fast food burger and fries meals. Drinking water and unsweet tea.
I have more energy now, and get less tired driving. My joints don't ach....sleep better..I really feel a lot better. My goal is 50lbs. by fall, and maybe another 20 after. Yes, I'm that heavy. I hope this helps.

Truck Blue your a light weight then if your looking at loosing 50lbs, must not be one of the "big ol boys" around Atlanta. I've got the Hippie/Santa Claus look going pretty good and need to drop 90-100 lbs. I just can't give up the local Mexican place yet.

CAVEMAN DIET - A friend of mine lost 70 pounds so I will not disagree with this thought and I have lost 10-pounds in about 2 weeks.

The Caveman diet is real simple - if it was alive EAT IT!
If it is grown from the ground - EAT IT!

So keep in mind - burgers, ham, pork chops, steaks, chicken - EAT IT and eat a reasonable amount of it.

Now you may want to cut out the buns or bread, eliminate the mustard, mayo etc etc when eating the meat stuff.......it takes some getting use to but it is worth it. I don't even eat red meat......

Eat plenty of veggies and some fruit. Remember fruit breaks down into sugar and slows the whole process down.

Cut out salt all together - use pepper instead.

Get a little electric griddle for the truck and cook this stuff yourself for some savings and some personal flavor.........

Watch your carb intake but I don't even worry about the calories. Like I said a friend of mine lost 70-pounds with this method - so proof is in the pudding...........oooooooooh that sounds good - but forget it......that is processed food made in a factory and that is a no no.

SIMPLE;

If it was alive - EAT IT
If it was grown out of the ground - EAT IT
If it was processed and made in a factory (cookies, cereal, bread. pasta, crackers, soups) FORGET IT!

The diet is called The Paleolithic Diet. You simplified it but here is the thing, there are grown out of the ground things you can't eat.

Beans top the list. NO beans. This does include Cashews, Soy products and Peanuts - all beans.

No grains including rice, bread and so on.

You can have mayo if you make it, easy enough to make.

Mustard is one issue I have to deal with, because of the vinegar but there's ways around that.

Overall the diet seems to work for most. It isn't something that you can gorge yourself with but have to pace yourself.

**edit**

I forgot to add this - no potatoes or sweet potatoes.

I lost 110 pounds over an 8 month period a few years ago. Cut out bread, potatos, sugar and most other carbs...It took a couple weeks to really get used to it. Is it difficult? Very much so at first. Once you get used to it it's not so bad. Especially when the weight startsd melting off...

Have you been able to keep it off? Seems that I can lose weight, then fall back into the old habits and gain it back!
I'm actually the ideal weight for someone who is 9 foot 10 inches tall! Unfortunately, I'm 6'2"!

We are also on a quest to lose weight but a diet is not the answer for us as we knew we had to make a permanent life style change. I cleaned the truck out of snacks such as chips, cookies, and no more candy. Then came exercise which is a goal everyday but not met everyday. There are times we are running to hard to stop for a very long walk. I have added hand weights and also strength bands to the truck do use when we cannot stop and walk. We also have our folding bicycles we get out when we find the area and time to ride. We are eating fresh as much as possible, this meaning fruits and vegetables. I have also added salmon to our diet at least once a week.

I have also started listening to books about nutrition and also how to exercise correctly. I was lucky enough to be selected for one of the finalists in the Women In Trucking and Bob Perry, The Trucker Trainer health challenge. Through Bob Perry I am also learning a lot about nutrition and how to live a healthier life style on the road.

I am the chairman of The Driver Health Council which meets once a week to discuss nutrition and we also have guest speakers on healthier ways to live on the road. We are heavily involved with the health walks that are in conjunction with the truck shows. Our next health walk will be in Vegas at the GWTS in June.

The more I learn the more I learn I do not know anything about nutrition, chemicals in our foods, and how to stay healthy and lose weight. It is a hard battle for us with our life style and we struggle each day to not slip up and grab something quick at all the fuel counters. Temptation is very tough for us.

It is working for us as we have both lost weight, we both have tons more energy, and best is our outlook stays focused and positive.

... and walk a mile 3-4 times a day ...

This is the key. Have to keep up on the physical activity for any of this dieting stuff to mean anything. My general rule is some kind of physical activity for a continuous 20-40 minutes a day, every day. Come up with other activities that help to offset the hours of driving. While waiting for the shipper, don't sit or lean on the wall: stand on your own two feet and learn to stretch your legs and back while standing around. Stand around long enough and it will feel good to sit back down in the driver seat. When teaming I would stand unsupported in the sleeper and gain something like sea-legs. Of course it takes some judgement as to when to do this. Take the stairs. Don't use a shopping cart. Buy only the amount that you can carry by hand or in a handbasket. Doing the simple leads to other ideas with the key being being active some minimal amount religiously everyday.

Wow, you don't want to use a diet because it cause a permanent life style change?

Sorry something seems wrong with that because that's what you want, to make it permanent not a fade.

While the diet mentioned "caveman" diet does work, it is a lifestyle change at many levels because it is like other diets that require people to think, atkins is another one. Once you start to include thinking into your food intake, then your lifestyle has changed, make is a real solid habit, then you have a permanent change.

You know with all these experts around in this industry, it seems no one has yet been talking about some of the real underlying issues that cause us not to control our diets. Just because someone walks 4 miles a day doesn't mean a thing when they are eating 4500 calories at one meal.

But then again we never hear much outside of these booklets about health.

Permanent lifestyle change means eating smarter. Just counting calories is not healthy and we could not sustain that lifestyle. Lifestyle change means making better choices not getting fries but fresh fruit. Not going for the bacon cheeseburger but getting a leaner cut of meat. Making exercise a priority not just maybe if I have time lifestyle change. It also means for me not cooking box dinners but actually cooking from scratch so I know what we are eating. This has not been an overnight change in our diet but a learn as we go healthier eating plan.

I did not want to go on a deprivation diet lose a few pounds go back to our old way of eating and gain it all back and then some. I want to learn to make better choices in the grocery store and in a restaurant and take control of our weight.

We have tried out many of the diets and we have lost weight and we have both lost a lot of weight the problem has been we gain it back and then some. I am hoping to finally put an end to the yo yo diet and get healthy.

Well linda, I sort of see what you are getting at.

BUT ...

I like it when people say "I was on Diet X, stopped and then I gained all the weight back"

Duh!

Of course you will.

Any diet is the guideline that you follow to eat better, you make it your eating lifestyle when you make it permanent. By constently working at it, you improve your life and keep weight off. By either expecting the weight to stay off by stopping the diet, you didn't do anything to better yourself.

The same goes for blaming the diet. Even though everyone is different, the diet is just a guideline and it is like any other medical thing - one doesn't always get cured by just one drug.

Eating better doesn't mean you are eating better on many levels.

Nevertheless, it is good that you are doing what you are doing.
