I had heard that you needed to provide the carriers DOT number. C&M doesn't want to be involved because their lawyer is concerned the state could come after them for money, somehow.

Somehow I think that they have no choice in the matter if you are leased to the carrier. I mean you have the DOT number plastered on your truck, it is a federal number that is in the public domain and in the case of some states, you have to produce a contract in some situations hence the company is involved right from the start.

I would agree with Gregg. You paying tax on a truck that is exempt has nothing to do with them. I would use their DOT number or a copy of their lease and get your refund.
To be fair, I have never heard of a carrier give that type of response. Maybe I am missing something?

I didn't pay the tax. See message #11.

I don't get it either. I can't imagine how the state could come after them when the truck's in my name. I can only assume that their lawyer saw something that created a "worst case" possibility and they just want to cover their rears.

Makes sense. When I read your #11 reply, I thought you paid sales tax on the first truck? I misunderstood your post. Shouldn't pay tax on any of them if it is leased to a carrier.

Finally got it!!!

Seller's credit union ordered the title from the state (FL) on Aug 2. They recieved it on Aug 20. 18 days to get a friggin title??? Someone was telling me... Southern hospitality/ Southern efficiency. Uggh!

Anyways... got the title today, got it registered, and ready to go for Monday. Time to make some mo-nay!

Thanx for everyone who gave advice! No more dealing with credit union title holders. From now on, give money - get title - or keep looking.
