Its kinda like if you own a Harley or think you own a Harley, the required attire is a black Harley T-shirt and doo rag.

One drawback to LED brake and running lights is there is no heat generated to melt snow from the lens. Incandescent bulbs usually produce enough heat to at least melt enough snow in the center of the lens making it visible.

I gots me some chickin lights on my lil ol van but no chain drive wallet, yet.

You've got chicken lights on your wheel chocks - admit it!
I always wanted to put a train horn on the cargo van, lol, but the big googly eyes [in the 0's of the 800 phone number] were kind of fun, too. ;)

I don't believe any amount of lights would have prevented this nut from rear-ending this tractor/trailer at 80 to 100 mph. Both the driver and front seat passenger were killed. Speculation is it was a murder-suicide. Miraculously a 2 year old in a kiddy seat in the rear escaped with minor injuries.

... Was out in the fog the other day and REALLY appreciated the truck in front of me with multiple...and bright LED's...

... I also put LED's computer chip brake lights on my straight and really notice a difference in how quickly other drivers reacted to brake lites and turn signals after install...

... sooo it seems that while I think most folks do it just for style statements...the safety advantages are there to back the decision...

... On a CMV tho..if you add the lights...you better make sure they all work ...all the time..

That last statement is one I've heard before, but if one is cited for nonworking lights, the LEO must cite which lights, which they can't do for lights that aren't required.
Yeah, I know, they'll write it up anyhow, but a good safety department/person should be able to get it removed.

Re: That worked well

I always thought 100% had to work.
My theory was if a bad wire was an issue it may cause a fire or at least a bigger light failure due to fuse/switch issues.

On more than one occasion I've had inspectors doing a level one tell me they don't care about non-required lights.

I do. If 100% don't work I've failed my own personal inspection.
