tire prices rising again

Tire prices went up in April and at least some manufacturers are planning another price increase or have just recently implemented another increase.

Light & Medium Truck | Tire Prices Rising

Everything is going up. The dollar is at a very weak point right now. Get ready to bend over for the coming fuel hikes as well, since we import over 60% of our oil.

Bad time to break into expediting, but I'll make it ok.

I know one thing if they are going to raise the prices they need to stand behind the warranty on the tires. Not happy with the Firestone steer tires we bought at the TA. Got the run around from two different TA after Freightliner checked the truck and said it was the tires. I had the driver take the truck to the TA in Lodi and they took care of the problem.

Yeap as the dollar goes down, everything is costing more...gas is on its way up right now and there is no shortage of crude or refined oil or gasoline...just the dollar dropping..

As for tires, i need to replace mine...I'll probably wait till I get back home, but i have called 2 people, i run Firestone AT's, have 136,000 right now and the prices i just got (after seeing this thread) they are actually $4 less per tire then they were on 10/04/09....lets hope that holds till i get home....

Wait!! ok so they are $4 less then before, and i am sure i heard some guy at Load 1 say something about using the "Company discount"......:D

Was that Belle Tire!?!?

I always search for good take offs and or good used tires and so far I have had great success ! Other day i got 4 vsteel uniroyal 10 ply for $30 each all like new still had the red ink on them and all.

I also was able to get 2 e rated firestones $50 and 2 michelin 10 ply $50

I always have tires here in my shed to change on the vans just in case plus I carry 2 spares in the van with me always.

My 03 diesel got a virgin set of dunlops from sears in 12-09 and that cost me $735 and I asked myself the whole time I waited what the heck did you do this for LOL.

Amd I mount and balance my tires myself my good friend has a auto repair shop and he lets me using his equipment that saves me allot of money also for the tires and services to my vans.

There are some guys I have used in the past for used tractor tires for my old TT up in gary area if you pull out of the old travelport which is a TA now and make a right opposite of highway side go under over pass and then make a right at ponderosa light go about half mile they are on the right great tires very good service and cheap. When I get my straight truck I will get tires from them. BTW I know of a couple large fleets that use these guys that is how I found out about them when I had a semi leased on with a large auto carrier company.

I goto salvage yards and small used tires shops when I am here at my house in Peoria, IL. a while back while in Laredo I went with a driver to a salvage yard down there and he got 2 very nice firestone 10 plys for $40 each and then paid $10 so a small tire shop to pust the tires on for him and balance. He was in shock lol he never thought of used tires. And I say used but the tires on my van look virgin. I have 1 kinda crappy tire and that is 1 of my spares but it still has lots of tread but I say crappy because it is only a c rated lt tire but it was FREE so its a great spare LOL

many times at the salvage yards the spares on the 1 ton vans are in good shape. also I have a chevy so dodge and ford rims will fit my van with out problems. my spares are all ford rims except 1 and its a fancy looking steel wheel stock gm rim.

I saw un ip michigan the other day many salvage yards that were basically all truck parts but I was on a hot load with no time to spare and hunt so I couldnt stop. But any salvage yard should do

but make sure and I stress double check the tires are not CRACKED OR ROTTED AWAY ! LOOK ON SIDE WALLS FOR CUTS OR VANDALISM MARKS, AND ALWAYS MAKE SURE THEY ARE E RATED OR HIGHER NOTHING UNDER ERATED WILL BE SAFE FOR OUR LARGE HEAVY VANS !
