Should I get a tip from the customer for delivering the freight early? After all, i'm just like the pizza delivery guy? Do you think NLM will get upset if the crew in Janesville pools their monies together to offer me a tip for delivering my load a few hours ahead of schedule? lol

My co-and i loaded in Cincinatti once, deliverd in Los Angeles 36 hours later, actually a day early, customer was so happy, sent a letter to Roberts Express, how pleased he was and gave us a $100 tip

Had another customer that we loaded for, from a trade show at Opryland hotel, took it to San Fransisco, guy told us instead of rushing to get there on Saturday, just bring it in on monday, and gave us both $100 each to play with in Reno.Funny part of this story. We were in Reno, did a layover, but Roberts didnt pay attention to our layover, and told the guy we were just around the block. He was really mad,as he was at a swimming meet for his kids, left there and no truck showed up.we were spending his money in Reno.

I believe it is fine and OK to tip a person for going above and beyond the call of duty, no matter the type of job (unless tipping may be considered bribing of some sort and become illegal). What I don't believe in is so many people tipping, even if the service is just standard. America has way too many services these days that 'require' tipping. A delivery person, or any other person for that matter, should be able to work and do their job average, and get to keep their job and earn the income the company gives them. An employee that goes above and beyond what they are required to do may receive a tip for their extra effort, but should never expect it, I think.

I am all for tipping a cleaning lady for doing their job exceptionally. On the contrary though, I would hate for it to ever become 'accustom' to do so. If someone actually DOES do a terrific job, it deserves reward. If they are doing average to poor though, they should never expect a tip. I wish all things were this way.

I tip $1 for a clean shower. If it's not clean, I leave a penny with a note stating what was lacking and that there would have been a $1 if it was clean. If the shower attendants realize they can make an additional $100 a week by doing a good job, most will step up. I talked to one lady who said that she understood times are tough for drivers, but even seeing a quarter on the counter is rewarding.

In another few months it wont matter, Mr. Nobama will be spreading the Wealth around so much no one will have to do minimum wage work. Plus in a Van I'm already paying $7.50-$10.00 for a shower.

I do not tip for the shower as others have said I belive there is way too many things we are expected to tip for. I do tip in the restarants, but I have always thought with what they charge for meals that they should be able to pay someone to bring it to me. Only once did I not tip at a restarant because I got the bar and the watress broght my wife and I our drinks and the check and never returned to the table. She did not take our dirty plates or refill our drinks. I have always felt that the tip should reflect the service, since I did not feel we got service she did not get a tip. Also she was not bussy she spent most of the time we were there B.S.ing

It can become a big annual fee that we all then have to live with.
this people are doing this job by a choice , for a pay.
Moose.

Moose, first even if you take 1 shower a day and leave $1.00...
It does not seem like "a big annual fee". $350 bucks, woop dee doo. There are many that we see that, by looking at them, are lucky to get a shower a week. So, $1.00/wk, big deal. Pay it, if it deserved and above standard service.

Second, do you really believe they are doing it by choice? Do you or others drive by choice?

Doubt it! We all do what we do based upon our individual needs.

Congrats to the gal who can be so upbeat and positive, while wiping up disgusting soap scum and hairballs from unknown sources. I find it unlikely that she wakes up everyday of her life and makes a conscious choice to go perform a thankless job.

As many of you have stated, I agree TIP's should be based upon the level of service. What many of you do not understand is that currently the FEDERAL MINIMUM WAGE FOR TIPPED EMPLOYEES IS $2.13/HR. Yes, the states have their own, but it cannot be any lower than $2.13. Can any of you live off of 2.13 plus TIP's, and every once in a while you get stiffed for a buck or two.

ALL tipped employes deserve something, however it could be a sliding scale. I have done this before, for instance, lets say you are expecting a $15.00 tab
Start at 20% or $3.00 and every time a server comes to help you, add a quarter or two. When they walk on by without offering to refill your drink or even acknowledge you, take the same amount away. It works great

It's been quite a while since I worked as a tipped employee, so I'm sure the amount has changed, but Uncle Sam says that we tip at least 7%. Sales are tracked and taxes are taken out for the income supposedly received. Being stiffed or tipped a low amount means the server is actually paying for the customer to eat their meal. If I can't afford to leave an appropriate tip after my meal, I can't afford to eat out.
That being said, I have had extremely poor service. When that happens I usually tip 7% rather than the 20% I leave otherwise. One time this year, I tipped the famous penny. I'd been served the wrong food, couldn't get server's attention, had to get my own drink refill. Obviously an unpleasant experience, but I don't remember which 'J' it was at.

I am sure all servers under stand the minum $2.13 and the 7% of the check being counted as income. That being said the server should make sure they provide the service the custumer is expecting. The tip should be for the service provided not an intitlement for the server.

Also the 7% assumes that not all people will tip 20% and some will not tip anything. If the server does here job well this can work in her favor because she can make more than than 7% and not be taxed for it.

I was surprised to see the number of people tipping after seeing so many posts on other threads complaining about conditions of showers . Cleaning showers is not the only job those employees do . They do other jobs and get the same pay as other employees so why tip except in the rare cases where service truly is exceptional . There have been too many times when I have had to wait for a shower when none were in use but employees didn't want to bother to clean them . When this happened at 4 a.m. at the Pilot at exit 36 on I-75 I asked to speak to a manager . The cashier said he was in charge and if I didn't like it I could take it on down the road . I haven't stopped there since .

If the service sucks why would you tip anything?? By leaving a tip you are thanking that person for their service. If the service sucks why would you want to thank them? I’m not cheap I tip well when the service warrants it. I have tipped the shower guy from time to time but like most if there is crap in the corner of the room I don’t tip they just cleaned what they needed to clean to get by. They didn't take any pride in the job. Same with the waitress if I have to keep asking for a refill on my drink then they didn’t look after me then I don’t look after them. I do take in account the size of the crowd if she/he is covering a large area and has several tables in use that does come into play. BTW i never tip anyone that doesn't speak ENGLISH.
