How many out there get loads on Thursday and deliver Friday morning or worse yet noonish and get to rot over the weekend??
You end up being 4-6 in order and theres no real time to move and get any rest even if you do luck out....I hate Thursdays!!

For us, that scenario has only happened a few times in the last 3 months. We've been lucky. For awhile it happened so much we just planned on sitting over the weekend.

I seem to be on a roll of Thursday!! *LOL* I try to pick up as early as I can and pick up the pace and get it off as soon as I can...but lo and behold theres a swamp of other trucks around and it would take 2 or 300 mile drive to get out...
I guess the solution would be to turn down anything under 300 miles down?? BUT thats crazy...to turn a bird in hand down for a gamble to get a longer one....ohhhhh what is one to do??? :D

I get most of my good loads in Texas that way. Sitting in Dallas or San Antonio. Mostly San Antonio, but still be ready to sit over the weekend. Unfortunately for me since the new year, I commit to my weekend appointments and beep, beep, beep--the barrage of 1000 mile loads that go entirely in the opposite direction I need to be.

If I do clear early on a Friday in a busy freight zone, best I can do is take some elses rejections that day...cuzz 1,2 & 3 are waiting for the BIG one!!!

Of course they do. That's where all the "preferred customer" and NLM cheap freight is. :p

NLM can't be all that bad, can it? A quick online search shows that Panther Expedited Services, Inc. has won the NLM Coverage Support Carrier Excellence Award in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Express-1 web site talks of Express-1 winning NLM's Carrier Excellence Award in 2004 and the growth NLM has contributed to the company. With that kind of volume being picked up by major-brand expedite companies, can everyone hauling NLM freight be going broke?

I can't speak for you C's D's and E's but for us Sprinters at E-1 if it's rated at Sprinter rate it's the same rate as non automotive... CV rate kinds sux though...

Ya never know what to do sometimes. Sat in SC Wednesday, seemed there were plenty trucks around, sooo, took a cheapo $1.20, SC to Chicago Thursday.. Happened on $700 run going to Cincinatti Fri AM, that put me in position to run a E pay load from IN to CA over the weekend. Ya jes never know what to do sometimes. But, if you don't do something, once in a while, you may do nothing for a long time. An some, will never get it. An thats OK by me.

I don't know about Thursday, it is Wed that kills me. I did nothing and got nothing. Then I did a little something and got something.

Think I need to do something pretty soon. Here I am in a place where freight is "good" ( Elkton, Md), and I am thinking maybe being in a good place there is too much competition.

I had the same problem in Charlotte, and as soon as I moved, I got a load.

I am in the market for a crystal ball.

That's usually the case with me. If I'm in one of the so called good freight areas, there are usually a lot of other people there as well, but if I'm in one of those areas that's not supposed to be good, I'm always back out quick. That's why I really don't mind going to the northeast. I always find a good paying load out of there because there's just not as much competition. I thought I was going to be spending the weekend in Dallas. I delivered in Kenosha on Wednesday morning and hung out in Milwaukee all day at my aunt's house, then a load turned up late that evening going down to Dallas. I picked the load up, grabbed a couple hours sleep, and then took off and delivered in Dallas on Thursday night. Slept at the J that night and there were a few other vans hanging around. The next morning I went to the Dodge dealer for my 10000 mile service and by the time they got done with the vehicle I had booked a load from Dallas to Houston. Not a big load by any means, but I got it for $1.50, and I figured that a little more cash in hand was better than hanging out for the weekend. So now I'm in Houston and prepared to sit until Monday, but I have family here that I can stay with until then, as soon as they get home. They're not going to be home for a couple hours so I'm just browsing the boards until then.

Panther has the option of out of service, Friday pickup Monday delivery that one can set whenever they choose. Some people will set that on Thursday, especially if it's afternoon before you POD. Sometimes it works well and you get a nice long weekend run and other times it backfires, just like every other "system" one can dream up.

Has anyone ever givin' a thought why thursdays and fridays are so busy?Bet,if your home and they give you a thursday afternoon pick up and friday afternoon delivery, your reluctant to take the load.Well thats the reason expedite is busy on thursdays.Mr Everyday Joe trucker wants a 2000 mile load on thursday he can deliver on monday,so that leaves many 5 6 0r even 700 mile loads on the docks, and guess whos busy then?expediters.of course you really dont want it either,as your now going spend the weekend away from home.Do you know why this is?same reason as thursday, regular carriers can deliver on monday, and its same as next day freight. But fridays are very busy expedite days.We get our monday pickups on friday, those longhaulers are now out of hours, and expediters are needed. So now you have your monday load, and guess what, your in your home away from home.Your home on wheels.Parked at the friendly truckstop,or motel,as we are this weekend. Our load picks up on monday.Well thats the life we've made for ourselves, dont ya just love it.

I got one Thursday afternoon and fortunately it was short enough (250 miles) that I was able to deliver it Thursday evening and get some sleep. Dispatch called on two on Friday and we got the shorter one (561) - a hand bomb that delivers out on Long Island Sunday morning between 08:00 and 09:00.

But they just called and asked me if I could do another one (PA to somewhere down in the Carolinas) as soon as I drop the one I've got on here now ..... another 500+ miles. :D

Ken - maybe you just need to take the shorter ones on Thursday ....

That was my exact thinking....BUT I would have had to turn down a 675 mile one to do that...and that doesn't seem wise neither!!

This biz could drive me crazy if I wasn't already there!:D
