It is starting to look like my Expediting endevor may not work out due to my Eye problem, not giving up yet though.

What may be other ways that I could serve the Expediting industry and be of assistance to you guys?

Possibly with truck customization or finding used parts that you might need?

Since my sales skills suck, Brokering loads would be hard to do, but a possibility.

Possibly help with administrative functios that are hard to do when out on the road?

Ideas for me to look into?

As I said, Im not giving up yet, just looking for a plan B.

Thanks

Maybe buy the old aluim bunk building in Woodhaven and open up a barbeque pit, truck service etc etc..That building could be a goldmine for someone catering to Expeditors in Mich.

I'm guessing you don't have any restaurant experience, but whomever can bump Subway & the other crummy fast food outlets from truckstops, & get some decent food in there, could make bank.
Wish I could help, JJ, but so far, I got nothin. I hope you come up with something, though, because you caught a tough break.

Dont have the money to open a resturant, but maybe a food delivery service.

Today I went to an eye specialist for my condition and he scheduled a few tests, which will determine my actual vision and will provide more than enough data for the medical review boards. Due to being in my 50's the normal Glaucoma is a major concern, which is being treated by eye drops to keep the pressure low to minimize the risk.

I am not quite ready to give up yet since I am confident that the peripheral field is ok and the scheduled tests should show that. With out the medical card, the new FMCSA guidelines will become the standard for companies, insurance, and unfortunatly lawyers. Just reading the writing on the wall and developing a plan B if I cant get the vision waiver.

There a still too many variables, the FMCSA is going to be bombarded by Law Suites after May 21st and congress will conduct hearings due to the letters from people complaining. These new regulations are way to vaigue and strict, which will affect a large percentage of drivers. They are looking at blood pressure, sleep apnea, vision, weight, diabeties, and many common health areas.

Living with a bad eye, you get used to having to be assertive with people telling you that your abilities are limited by vision due to their ignorance. I have no control control over the medical review boards and will fight like he11 to not be denied my right to proper medical clearence as determined by my Opthomologist and test results. If test results dont support the medical requirements than there is no choice but to do someting else, but untill that time try everything untill all options are exausted.

When I was at Roadway they turned down an applicant with an artificial arm/hand.
He went to the Feds.
They brought him in and he proved he could drive, drop and hook, and string together the doubles
Roadway hired him.

You can fight and win.Just don't give up.

Thanks. Who knows, I may end up being some sort of Advocate for Drivers with disabilities.

Over the years I learned not to mention my eye problem and people where surprised when I told them after working with them for awhile.

Saw a post about BMI and all the FMSCA needs to do is visit construction sites, there are many large people that are more physicaly fit than most people. I would love to see one of those FMCSA fitness experts try to keep up with them. I have seen many athletic young guys quit because the physical activities was too much for them to handle.

Today got the medical result back from my eye test and as I suspected my visual field is fine. The Doctor will write the letter and submit the test results along with it.

At least now I have legal grounds if I get denyed again.

Where there's a will , there's a way. It looks like you have the will, now you're on your way. One step closer...
