Those of you that have 05-06 engines. What are your plans for California next year?

As a fleet owner, we are working it from a couple different angles because half of our fleet meets the requirements and the other half doesn't. While watching the implementation and flying lawsuits, we will utilize the 1000 mile exemption and apply a differential program for the trucks that would be affected by having a limitation of entry beyond the 1000 miles.
If a truck can't go, that doesn't mean no revenue, but it may or may not be less? We will use current and prior year numbers to arrive at that contractors variance.

The purpose of that is to ensure there is no financial impact on the contractors part if their vehicle can't enter. This is more cost effective than doing something stupid like paying 16k for a retrofit than will prematurely damage the engine. What dealer is working on a truck with a retrofit on it outside of California? Imagine the screw ups with that kind of foolishness?
As trucks get replaced, the variance would go away with the new truck purchase. Seems like the right way to address "saving a tree".

I would rather give money to my teams long before I spend a cent that is for the benefit of California.

I guess the whole 'premature damage to the engine' thing could have also been said before we started recycling that abrasive soot back into the cylinders via EGR. In our case, if we don't buy new, i'm starting a dialogue with Donaldson, the biggest maker of the kits. If we do go that way, I'll share what i find out.

Ok...sounds good. According to Cummins, they would have to recalibrate the computer to allow for excessive back pressure. In that process, many (not all) sensors would have to be changed to match the much higher operating temp of the engine. They weren't even sure sure of the long term effects. Imagine that? Their recommendation was to buy another truck.

Was running solo till last month now were running full team, we already are cali legal but yet to get there as solo or team, have fellow drivers that have been there quite a bit and having good luck, seems it would be bad to disqualify a state that big regardless of the reason ..IMHO

Most are disqualifying the state because they cannot afford or aren't willing to upgrade their equipment to run Cali., that is their decision and I cannot find fault with their reasons.. That said, the few that have upgraded their equipment could be looking at better rates next year going into and out of Cali...

I hope those of you that do chose to up grade or buy new do get a better rate, you deserve it. California should now be like going to Canada, a higher rate.
