There were a few tense moments, however, including an encounter involving Joshua Sparling, 25, who was on crutches and who said he was a corporal with the 82nd Airborne Division and lost his right leg below the knee in Ramadi, Iraq. Mr. Sparling spoke at a smaller rally held earlier in the day at the United States Navy Memorial, and voiced his support for the administration’s policies in Iraq.

Later, as antiwar protesters passed where he and his group were standing, words were exchanged and one of the antiwar protestors spit at the ground near Mr. Sparling; he spit back.

Capitol police made the antiwar protestors walk farther away from the counterprotesters.

“These are not Americans as far as I’m concerned,†Mr. Sparling said.

Another counterprotester, Larry Stark, 71, a retired Navy officer who fought in Vietnam for five years and was a prisoner of war, said, “We never lost a battle in Vietnam but we lost the war, and the same is going to be true in Iraq if these protesters have their way.â€

The protesters on Saturday were undermining troop morale, Mr. Stark said, and increasing the likelihood of a premature withdrawal.

“It’s like we never learn from the past,†he said.

Well, gee true feelings come out. Not only are they against the war, but they seem to hate the troops.

Another Gem...

Tassi McKee, from Bastrop, La., who said she was a staff sergeant in the Air Force, was among a small contingent of about 20 active-duty service members who turned out. “I believe this has become a civil war, and we are being hurt and making matters worse by staying in the middle of it,†Sergeant McKee said.

She said that it was not illegal for active-duty members to attend protests but that it was strongly discouraged.

My Guess is Tassi's Career is pretty much over. Hope it was worth it for her.

And quotes from her from another story...

Air Force Staff Sgt. Tassi McKee, 26, an intelligence specialist at Fort Meade, Md., said she joined the Air Force because of patriotism, travel and money for college. "After we went to Iraq, I began to see through the lies," she said.

Yeah, her career is over. My guess is that she joined for mostly travel and school money rather than Patriotism.

This is very disturbing to me.. a 12 year old.

At the rally, 12-year-old Moriah Arnold stood on her toes to reach the microphone and tell the crowd: "Now we know our leaders either lied to us or hid the truth. Because of our actions, the rest of the world sees us as a bully and a liar."

The sixth-grader from Harvard, Mass., organized a petition drive at her school against the war that has killed more than 3,000 U.S. service-members, including seven whose deaths were reported Saturday.

Wow, you think maybe her parents have really been messing with her mind? Whn I was 12 I could hardly care less who the President was, much less rattle off a load of BS like that.

An I love that the person writing the story was able to fit int he 3,000 number right in there. Not like everyone has no idea how many troops have been killed.

as a side note, I ran into a anti war person at a bar last time I was home. She was in her 20s, pretty, seemed intelligent. Until she asked what I did. She got nasty right away. We debated a little, until I asked her some questions about things and the region she could not answer because she really had no clue. She called me a baby killer and walked off.

Hey! Thanks for your support!

There a lot of people out there that support the troops that are not being heard. A lady from a church group contacted us wanting to send something over to our daughters troop in Iraq. Her words where "We really want to do something to show our support" please tell us something we can send that they will enjoy. I think there are a lot more out there like her and her church group. Brandy, our daughter has also been contacted by a brownie troop in Arizona wanting to do something for the soldiers and would like to know a little about what her daily life is like in Iraq. These people are not doing these acts of kindness for headlines.

Guess what Aviator, when all the red states turned blue, one after another, across the land, those people were saying the same thing as the majority of the anti war protesters. This war is insane, and we are tired of killing,on both sides, when there is no justification.
There are always a few spitters, and a few loud mouths on all sides. But wake up my good friend,W now has 26 % agreement among the citizens of our fair land.We are paying the bills, and losing our sons and daughters.WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF W'AND HIS NO PLAN WAR!!!!!!
So point out what you wish, select a few stories from Foxed news, and you and Bill O' rant and rave. You represent a very small minority, and we don't listen any more. The total bumbling of this war of lies and deceptions has worn us out. It's not about the troops,as they do what they are told.Hitler did not recognize he was losing, and sacrificed many of his troops rather then admit defeat. The same thing happened in Viet Nam,and to a lesser degree in Korea.
Don't confuse those in the streets exercizing their Constitutional rights with the real enemies within, and you know who I mean!

The sergeant joined for travel and college money and patriotism only became a talking point to go protest with. The 12 year old is a puppet of the liberal parents. The liberals are going to divide the country until forcing us to turn tail and run. When that happens it won't be safe to fly anywhere near the Sears tower or refineries or other places as our enemy will renew their attacks on us. This will not end until all infidels (us and non-Muslims elsewhere) are dead or until all the animals (jihadists) are hunted and killed. I vote for hunting and killing all the animals.

You really don't get it tallcall. This is about so much more than Iraq or Afghanistan. If you were here, and saw what I see, you would understand that yes, the news is lying to you. They are making things sound 1,000% worse than they are.

When was the last time you were in Iraq or Afghanistan? I am here, I an am telling you what you see is misrepresented. Are you calling me a liar?

I would tell any one of the news reporters that I ran into they were full of crap to their faces, and would do it in front of a crowd of witnesses.

I pray the anti war people do not hold out and win with their ideas. If you do however, I hope you enjoy your world that you will get. And please don't try and blame what you will get on people like me. You have no clue what these people are like. They do not hate that we are here, they just hate us period.

They hate us, and you hate the president and people who do not think like you do. Even when President Clinton was in office, I called him the President. I notice in your posts, that if it is someone you dislike, you do not even mention them by title, or name, you use cute, but insulting nicknames for most of them. That says a lot.

Leo,all we can do is guess what W really means when he keeps telling us 911 is the reason we are in Iraq.It is the only straw he has to hold onto.If it's enough for you,so be it.
For 75% of the American population it smells very fishy, and a few people in Washington are going to be looking into it now that they can.We are doing the peoples business, finally.

RE: RE%3A This is how the Anti War Protestors

tallcal, I have refrained from commenting to anything you have said to this point but I have to tell you, you are the most typical California liberal bedwetter I have seen on this sight. You don't quote facts you spew emotions. Yes, now is your big chance. You have control of Congress and that darling Nancy Palosi to rally behind. I suppose oral sex doesn't count with you and the definition of "it" is up for debate. You've never heard of "Travelgate", Monica, tossing cruise missiles here and there to divert attention and I am sure you give good ole Bill all the credit for the programs Ronnie and W1 put in place that created the economic boom of the nineties.

Am I happy with our sitting president? No, I am not but not for the reasons you are unhappy. I'm unhappy because the appeasing politicians of our times are too scared to carry out the true wishes of the voters that put them in office. Why are they scared? Because they don't want to take the chance on alienating the crossover voters that might cost them re-election.

If you think this war is about oil you are truly... shall we just say disillusioned.

Send in more troops. Kick the ##### that needs kicking and then we can get out. Protect our borders vehemently and by whatever means necessary. If you are here illegally, get your sorry ##### out. Lets do some logical racial profiling at the airports and shipyards and stop worrying about who we ##### off. Lets do away with the IRS, implement the national sales tax and watch this country become a tax haven for every substantial corporation in the world, set some real term limits and return being an elected official back to being someone who really wants to serve for the good of thier constituants. If you are on welfare and have two children your next pregnancy gets you sterilized.

That'll get us started on the right track again anyway.

I CAN speak for them. I DO carry a military ID. I HAVE done over 18 years in the Military, and am still military. The only reason I am here working for the State Department as a door gunner instead of with the military is that ALL the units I tried to get over here with in the last 5 years were FULL of VOLUNTEERS. AND, as I DO work with and for them every day of the week, OVER HERE, that gives me the insight and the RIGHT to speak for them, more so than say... you, or some person who would choose to spit on them when they return.

By stating the Opium eradication is a "doing nothing" job, shows your lack of understanding of the situation. The Taliban are getting a LOT of money from sales of Opium. The more we take funding away from them , the less they can do. The more we get the local farmers growing something useful, the better off this country will be.

Aviator

EDITED TO ADD:

If the members of the Military are SO split on the war, why would there only be 20 or so from the military out of 10s of 1000s that were at the protest. One more example.. The media finds a handful of troops that are against the war, and use them again and again. Makes it dound like a lot more.

Hey D unit, good to hear from you! Thanks for your brilliant insight on my state, your patriotism and your high moral ground.I'm very impressed!
You are obviously very well informed and probably read every book that comes out about the various exploitations in the name of doing business and profiting on this mess we call the war on terror(sic).
Have you noticed that Osama is still laughing his a** off in a cave someplace?Have you noticed my good friend? The Republicans had 6 years to to get it right, and ended up going to prison, and being the do nothing congress of the last 100 years. So your little specch about Nancy and Monica etc. just shows your amazing lack of being able to get past the F word in the dictionary.I'm sure you pepper your vocabulary with oh so many colorful words and phrase's.
My emotions,as you charectorize them, are based on reading books such as "Blood Money",which examines recent records from the Office of Audit of our Government. It relates to companies such as Parsons and Bechetel and how they have taken billions of dollors for work undone.
I just finished "See No Evil" by Robert Bare,an ex CIA agent who has brilliant insight into the CIA in the middle east, which set the stage for 911.Lack of communication and chaos is well documented.
Give books a try D,you might be surprised that people like me are not just a bundle of emotions, but actually have facts to back up our opinions.
But facts don't mean much on this forum,so just keep calling me names and dissing my state,it's quite entertaining!!

If we had not of cut and run from your present position the job would be done and we would not need contractors. We blinked, changed priorities, and now you are stuck trying to clean up what should have been done 4 years ago.
With regards to the opium, good luck. It's low priority to this adminitration.Opium has been there for centuries, and the tiny amount of money this administration is putting out toward irradication is a non event. All the money is going to the civil war we are now engaged in.
I'm sorry if the truth is painful to you,but it is never the less the truth. No one person speaks for an entire group no matter how much you wish it to be true. Not you,not W not Rumsfield(he's gone) not the Generals not anyone.
I respect your commitment, and your willingness to participate in whatever it is your doing, but please don't confuse your interpritation of patriotism with mine. And please don't tell me yours is a more relivant or important form then mine.Your there by choice, which is not the case for so many service personal who are National Guard troops who have done 2 and 3 rotations and never dreamed they would be in the middle of a civil war.
Do you remeber those words spoken so many years ago on the flight deck of a US Aircraft Carrier:
"Mission Acomplished".It's been down hill from there.

I believe I stated, quite clearly, that I was not happy with any of our current political practices. As per the normal liberal mindset you heard what you wanted to hear and responded in a typically emotional manner not denying any of my comments and offering no facts that dispute them.

That said, the point is we must support our president, republican or democrat, when this nations sons and daughters lives are in harms way. Not doing so, as Aviator is trying to tell you, directly costs American lives. This Nation no longer stands as one when this happens and that is a painful and dangerous truth.

Cut and run? Hrmm tell that to the 1000s of troops we still have here. And the main reason we do not still have a lot more people here, is because the Democrats favorite World group, The Un took control of this situation. Now it is "Multinational". Well over 30 countries here doing the work we were doing. Not always as well as we did.

>With regards to the opium, good luck. It's low priority to

Sorry, wrong again. It IS a priority. The funding we provide is a small portion of it. The Brits are spearheading the anti drug program here, and it is actually going very well for being a year or two old.

>I'm sorry if the truth is painful to you,but it is never the
>less the truth. No one person speaks for an entire group no
>matter how much you wish it to be true. Not you,not W not
>Rumsfield(he's gone) not the Generals not anyone.

I never claimed to speak for an entire group. What I DID say was the fact I have been military for 18 years, still am military, and live and work with military, over here, means I have a better idea of what MOST are thinking and saying. Much better than say a guy from CA or wherever driving a truck, or selling copy machines. Would you care to debate that further?

>I respect your commitment, and your willingness to
>participate in whatever it is your doing, but please don't
>confuse your interpritation of patriotism with mine. And
>please don't tell me yours is a more relivant or important
>form then mine.

I do not believe I have done either of these things. I have however said I think you are very wrong. I also feel that my particular job, and area I live in gives me better information to make such a decision. As wrong as I feel your opinion is, it is no less important than mine, just wrong in my view.

Your there by choice, which is not the case
>for so many service personal who are National Guard troops
>who have done 2 and 3 rotations and never dreamed they would
>be in the middle of a civil war.

Hrmm, they ALL signed a contract, and ALL took the oath. For anyone to think they can join a military branch and think they can do 20, 10 or 5 years and not go to war are dreaming. there are huge strings attached to the benefits those people signed up for. The majority of the people in the Guard or Army signed up to go make a difference. And they are. To me, that is not even close to against your will.

RE: RE%3A This is how the Anti War Protestors

I see, so pull out right away. That is the answer huh? Then what? I'm sure if we just say "oops, we're sorry", they will just stop paying attention to us. Isolationism perhaps? Just close the borders? You're bright enough to know that's not gonna work out so hot. So Mr. Peanut gallery, what's the magic answer?
With that covered, let's turn to the coment of ALL of those people in the military who want us out. Well BUD, I'm at the largest post in Iraq...funny I never hear any of that talk. But hey, I'm sure those numbers MUST be accurate!! After all, you're no where near where the people are who you speak of...funny, I'm right in the middle of them...but I'm sure you MUST be more informed than I of how the men and women in the military feel. Maybe, out of the 10 people they surveyed, none of those college kids who were in it for a free education not believing they would have to actually DO anything for it thought that being here was a good idea. DO NOT speak for anyone over here, you are the least justified in doing so.
Just a quick note about Osama sitting in that cave laughing his a** off. Wasn't it some other president who was informed that a certain African country had him, and that wonderful president thought better NOT to do something with him when the offer was made. But then, you are educated...you read as you are so quick to point out. Well, you just keep reading about it, and we will continue to live it. Whatever you do, don't sell short all those people writing those books. They have a buck to make...you keep giving them yours. I think I will stick with what my eyes see though....thanks.
Keep that blanky pulled WAY up over that head...someday when we are done with our work over here, it will be safe for you to come out...the only thing you need to say is "Thank you". But you're pretty high on your horse for that...
