Things I Like about FECC

I like that FedEx Custom Critical is as committed to safety today as it was nearly seven years ago when Diane and I came on board. Some of their specific safety decisions are wrongheaded at times but the general approach puts safety first, which is one of the reasons we chose FedEx Custom Critical over all others.

I like the business opportunity that being a FedEx Custom Critical contractor is. As contractors Diane and I have been able to achieve the personal (non-financial) goals we set before entering the business, achieve short and mid-term financial goals, and strive to achieve our long term financial goal with confidence that we will succeed.

The above should not be construed to suggest that Diane and I are delighted with everything FedEx Custom Critical does. More than once, staff changes, policy changes and/or technology changes have motivated us to dust off our Plan B. Our carrier has not pushed us over the edge yet but there have been times when they came close.

It seems that if someone is happy with their employer, there are those on the site that cannot accept it. This will be my 23rd year of expediting, 21 with Roberts/FDCC. During that time I have learned to take with a grain of salt the complaints/praise I hear from those O/O's from all companies including my own. I often offend others by simply asking "why don't you quit" when I hear tales of mistreatment, lying, fraud, etc.
We are alll on the same road, taking different routes to get there. No one company has all the answers or there would only be one company. I would like to see the topic continued with owners from other companies singing the praise of their employer.

Even though I've been away form expediting for over 5 yrs., I want to thank you guys for posting these positive comments about FECC. I would be more likely to use FECC, if the need arose, knowing that their contractors are happy with their carrier. One of the reasons I was happy with LEA, was that their emphasis on you, the contractor, being happy with your job.

Now, please excuse me, I must go out to find some diesel fumes to sniff.

And that's the problem. Too many people who think a contractor is an employee.

No, no.........that is a good thing. As long as the myths and rose colored glasses continue to survive, the less competition elsewhere.

I like that we get paid something for every mile we drive. I would not like working for a company that wants me to deadhead for free. If FedEx sends me somewhere for a delivery they will pay me to deadhead to the express center or to the next pick up. I really do not care what the loaded miles pay. I want to know how much I am getting for every mile I drive my truck. I also like knowing that I can make more than a fixed rate.
I just checked my stats for the last 100 runs. If I look at my average for loaded miles I am working for the highest paying carrier out there. (Surface Expedite D unit)
The last month has been fantastic. The only time we have not had a run was when we wanted a break.
I also like the brand recognition. No one ever asks "Who's FedEx".

Not only that, but .....

In the late 50's a car race was held in Italy to determine whether Soviet cars were better or worse than American cars. The Soviets provided a Zhiguli (later known as a Lada) and the Americans provided a Ford. The Ford won the race handily, but the next day’s report in Pravda headlines reported that the Soviet car had come in second while the American car had finished next to last. The same thing happened again in the 60's when the Americans beat the Soviets in a basketball game, where Pravda reported the Soviets coming in second, and the Americans coming in second to last.

FedEx ranks #1 in customer satisfaction among express delivery companies, with a score of 85 out of 100. Ranked #2 is UPS with a score of 82 out of 100. Ranked #3 with a score of 77 out of 100 is the US Postal Service (Express and Priority Mail service only).

While FedEx ranks #1, and it is a legitimate #1, the above three companies are the only three companies that are involved in the Express Delivery rankings.

That is true, but almost all the time I am referred to as FedEx, not FedEx Custom Critical.

So yes, we are small compared with the big FedEx, but we are thrown together in the same pot.

Right, it's the FedEx brand all know. It's like Trojan, Bayer, Tampons. Everyone knows the brand.

Being in the same pot, it's very hard to see the real numbers for each member in the pot. As one may have good revenues, but no operating income due to high cost, you through their revenue numbers in the pot and all is good.

But stating you rank number 1 in the pot is a little snotty...sorry...

But hey, I am number 1 in my own pot, just no one yet knows the brand of

Well ,it's why they paint the Airplanes the same color as Custom Critical purple . everyone recognize the brand color ,so they try to catch a ride with the airfreight service . and the packages can earn 'ground millage' on a Custom truck .

They had the paint on the aircraft long be CC came into the world...But, there was one FedEx Plane that was pink. Deicing training in Memphis, to much mix turned it pink.

I too have had a lot of "Purple" loads on my Sprinter. So I guess I like that about FECC.

Some have claimed to be offended by this photo. I find it inspirational. The young lady to the left of center is obviously physically challenged. She may have been born without a body or had a terrible disease that required her body to be amputated. Yet she is clearly enjoying herself and laughing her head off at party.

Perhaps she isn't laughing. Maybe she is screaming in pain and the camera recorded the split second her head became separated from her body.
