We are getting close to the end of the year and I know I need to copy all of my receipts as some are all ready fading. I am planning on throwing away the original after I have copied and printed them. Does anyone have a good suggestion to keep up with all of these receipts through out the year?

Putting multiple receipts on each page then using laser copier 11†or 14†paper seems to produce best quality that will last for longer than I’ll need them.

I use one of those Expandable check files, it seems to keep them well without fading. Then about every couple of months when @ home I then move then to the single expanding ones and date it...like jan.-march. It also helps keep down the amount on the truck & if I need to go back and look one up thats easyier too.

I also have the expandable files at home and always thought they did well till I looked up one of my Wal-Mart receipts from January and could barely read it. I know if we are audited in seven years not of these will be readable. What a hassle though.

We scan all of our receipts and save to disk. The disk will never fade. Also at the end of the year we get back all of our original receipts. Joe

Our receipts are scanned every couple of days into pdf documents and the original source documents are filed away in the dark.

The pdf documents are stored electronically and also printed and filed away.

I tend to have an appreciation for multiple copies and multiple backups for data stored electronically.

I use a credit card for EVERYTHING I purchase, either for my delivery business or anything personal.

Even a cup of coffee at McDonalds !!

Some of the advantages are: Less trips to the ATMs; you don't have to carry as much cash with you; permanent records of where you were in regards to date, time and location; and at least one (1) percent rebates on all purchases and even as high as four (4) percent on some fuel purchases; and finally, you have less paper receipts floating around.

The downside: (?) Always pay the monthly bill ontime to avoid any interest fee. (This should never be a problem as some claim. If you had to purchase the products initially, you would have had to pay cash anyway.)

I was audited by the IRS in 1999 and they (IRS) disputed my mileage claims (130k) for that year. The auditor only needed about 10 min to connect the dots as for the authenticity of the mileage claims.

The monthly statements from Chase Bank were invaluable.

Be safe.

Printer scanner coppier in the truck.
Buy 1 or 2 flash drives and scan all receipts including fuel to them.
The ones from pilot are really bad about dissapearing.
You can also scan all BOL's to so when your company loses or claims not to have recieived them you can just pop in the flash drive and E-mail it to them.
They are always surprised when we say well I could go in and spend $10 to fax all this but could I just e-mail it?
Remember while scaning though to resize so you will be able to send it later and it just takes up less space on the drive.
