Well Terry if you must know I will answer your question this way I’m not speaking as just someone off the street who has his ear to the ground I will simply say I have been to meetings that you will never know about or ever be informed about and please i do not make that statement in a derogatory way at all I have always said the drivers and all workers are the backbone of what makes the company continue to grow and when I speak of meetings I say that in a way that this particular subject has come up many years prior to now along with threats of union which was dealt with by a certain core of managers. Now will CC become employees? Will Ground become employees? I really doubt it reason I say that is because if you’re completely aware of FS original vision the way CC and the way IC's are really to be used is how he wanted the entire umbrella to be ran and actually that is still his goal. Despite what any information you may receive from a inside contact telling you it will all be ok the only thing I can say is that there are a lot of changes that the FedEx umbrella will be experiencing. Everything that Ground is dealing with and as stated already mainly on the P&D side and in some satellite terminals where the line haul drivers are doing a lot of P&D work because of certain terminals needing trailers to make deliveries and pickups as well due to so much bulk will all come to a head and it will in some aspects affect all of the brands of FedEx. Yes even Express. Time will answer all questions good and bad.

RE: I Have Worked For Both

Tom your 300% right with HD you don’t have any control of your "business" you’re at the mercy of what you’re told to do and where you’re told to go and what time you’re told to be there and if you refuse to take a package you are putting yourself in jeopardy of having your contract taken away.

Back in the Roberts days you had a much greater possibility of being classified as an employee. There was essentially forced dispatch, forced layovers, you could be penalized and put out of service after two refusals and when you went home you were penalized due to their policy of having inbound trucks from other areas that would unload in your home center then would drop you down on your home board.

After Fedex took over someone must have realized that they were really pushing the envelope and the policies were changed.

For a person that has the inside track to the FDX management team I should think you'd be capable of answering a simple question instead of obfuscating the issue. Are you a FedEx Custom Critical contractor and if not, what is your affiliation with this business of expediting? Naturally, I wouldn't want you to divulge any proprietary information you surely hold.

RE: I Have Worked For Both

There was an interesting article in "The Trucker " newspaper about a contractor that failed to pay taxes and claimed the carrier should have withheld taxes . I'll update if I find the article but the courts used several points to determine if he was an employee or IC . It was quite interesting because a couple of points would have classified him an employee , 2 were neutral but 3 or more classified him as an IC and the court ruled he was an IC .
But this is why everyone should have their taxes handled by an enrolled agent or CPA . When issues like this come up they can represent you and are recognized as being ethical and knowledgeable by the RS .

Well Terry first and foremost I’m very capable of answering a question and I’m also very capable of saying that any position that may be held really is not your business. Also let’s be very clear that I am not in anyway shape or form confused with the issue (I do believe that is what your getting at make a mental note usage of large words when not necessary really takes away from ones writing in any kind of forum) what I have stated has all been truth and “IF†you are educated as to the original and current goal of Fred Smith you would know that everything that has been posted has been true. As far as your statement of making myself public (again large words really make the person very small when not called for) it was a post that was made and knowledge was given please don’t take it personal, being that is the way you are portraying yourself but simply read what all have had to say on the subject all of your peers have an opinion and a view. As was stated earlier TIME ANSWERS ALL QUESTIONS GOOD AND BAD! The question and the issue have nothing to do with “the inside track†but have everything to do with being Owners under the business umbrella of FedEx. Merry Christmas to you and to all fellow Expeditors and professional drivers! Stay safe.
