Intentional Ignorance, a Poor Life Strategy

Above, I said a certain example of intentional ignorance was sad to see. Allow me to further explain the "sad to see" part. It's sad to see because intentional ignorance is a poor life strategy. While it has certain internal benefits to the person who is intentionally ignorant, it does not produce good results in life.

Example: Years ago a businessman leased space next to us in our strip mall to open a new business. He next started his build-out, but did so without learning what the applicable city, county and state rules were.

The lease he signed with the landlord included a provision that he comply with all applicable regulations. If he read the lease at all, he chose to remain intentionally ignorant of the regs he was telling the landlord he would comply with.

As I spoke with him, it became obvious that this man was indeed ignorant of the rules that apply. When you sign a lease to open a new business, it is wise to research the rules, permits, requirements, etc. well in advance. He did not do this. At that point, it may not have been because he was intentionally ignorant. It was more likely he was innocently ignorant. He simply did not know.

But as things progressed, it became crystal clear to me that his strategy was to remain intentionally ignorant. When his lease told him of the rules and required his compliance, he chose to intentionally not read and understand the lease at all, or he chose to intentionally ignore the requirements for reasons that made sense to him.

The more reality confronted him, the more intentionally ignorant he chose to be. When he was told he had to have a building permit before he could begin work, he proceeded without one; spending a lot of money to redo the floor. When the city issued a stop-work order he chose to remain intentionally ignorant of the rules and make up his own explanations instead. They had it in for him, he said. There is a good-ol-boys network in place that does not want him to open a business, he said.

When he finally decided to get a building permit, reality struck again. This time it was because he needed another kind of license to serve the food and drinks he wanted to serve (at a side counter, not the main business). There again, he chose to remain intentionally ignorant of the truth, which was that the city would forcibly shut him down if he did not start complying with the rules.

After a few months of this painful city-inspector/tenant dance, he gave up and walked away bankrupt. He spent a bunch of money to improve space he did not own and left it behind for the next tenant to enjoy for free. He blamed everyone but himself for his pitiful circumstances. His intentional ignorance kept his ego intact and his wallet empty. He was absolutely right in his own mind and penniless in life.

It was sad to see. He repeatedly collided with reality as he tried and tried and tried. But he steadfastly refused to consider that there may be a truth out there that was beneficial to know and repeatedly invented explanations about what he wanted to be the real truth and the real motives and the real way other people are. For every clear fact from reality that hit him like a brick, he had an alternative explanation about what was really happening. To this day, he believes people had it in for him when the truth is he was too pigheaded to grasp simple and obvious truths, or to even try.

In political debate, intentional ignorance equally detrimental to those who maintain it, and beneficial to those who are highly skilled in manipulating the intentionally ignorant.

Democrats sent the fbi to raid a former president of the United states.....not even former president Nixon was raided.....they just handed Nixon a subpoena for the tapes....no 30 fbi agents needed.
It was a power move to show the American people what lengths they will go to stay in power.....and we told you not to vote for Biden.

Trillions of dollars spent
87,000 irs agents
80 billion to the irs
Gas prices are up
Electric prices are up
Food prices are up
Oil pipeline closed
Permits to pump oil,and natural gas canceled
But you voted for stupid.
Democrats only want power.....they don't care who they destroy to get and keep it....why do you think many of them have been in government office for over 30 plus years.

What you say is absolutely correct. Within the confines of the shrinking Republican Party and their closed primary system, MAGA people have near full control. And they are using that control to advance election deniers and Trump loyalists to the upcoming general election.

It is also true virtually no MAGA people are turning out in the streets to protest the search of Trump's home, offices and one or more safes.
The MAGA people know he is crooked, they just dont care because they believe Biden is worse.

That is a perfect example of what is killing this country. "the rules dont apply to me" Trump is the poster boy of this mentality.

Where are the “liberal social justice warriors” marching in the streets? You would think this would bother them a great deal. But wrong party so no big whoop.

In Jan, 2022, 15 boxes that had been taken from the White House and improperly brought to Mar-a-Lago were returned by Trump's people to the National Archives.
As long as we're nicking pits for the sake of accuracy, those boxes, both the ones previously returned to the National Archives and the boxes taken by the FBI, were packed up and shipped to Mar-a-Lago by the General Services Administration.

Presumably on Trump's orders, improperly given.

Define "accurate," please.
Not 15, as in the 15 boxes previously returned. The most accurate number I have seen so far regarding the other boxes in question, as in those seized by the FBI this week, is "around 12."

"A lawyer for former President Donald Trump said FBI agents took around 12 boxes from his Florida Mar-a-Lago home in their Monday raid." (Source)

Could Trump have signed the law that will be used to prosecute him?????
Prosecute him, possibly, but not convict him. Setting aside the fact that the GSA is the entity that packed up and sent the boxes to Mar-a-Lago, rather than Trump willfully and wrongly mishandling classified documents, the President can declassify anything at any time, and he (or she) doesn't have to let anybody know about it, much less get permissions from someone else. If they try and prosecute, all Trump has to say is, "Oh, that stuff? I declassified that stuff months before the GSA packed it up. There's nothing classified in there."

Why would you presume that? That's not how the GSA works during transitions. The GSA calls the shots in packing up the White House. They know what stays, and that everything else has to go. If other agencies haven't collected what they need from the White House, too bad, so sad, it gets packed up, figure it out later (as the National Archives had to do).

If you remember, the GSA wouldn't even recognize Biden as the winner of the election until near the end of November, freezing Biden's transition team from accessing the White House, federal agencies, and funds to facilitate the transition.

You might be right about that. But I have to think that if Trump made that argument, the counter argument would be to ask what evidence is there of that decision? Were the documents re-labeled to denote their unclassified status? If not, why should anyone believe you when saying now the documents were declassified conveniently keeps you out of prison?

Also, even if they were declassified, the Presidential Records Act does not require a document to be classified to be one protected under the act. The law talks about certain presidential records. Whether they are classified or not is a different issue.

I presume that because a search warrant was issued to recover documents improperly transported to Mar-a-Lago and GSA is unlikely to do that on their own. I'll add the method of transport is not at issue. Improper possession of the documents is.
