The Sprinter I Saw Today

Today I saw a Sprinter 3500 Cab and Chassis at a local fuel stop.
I had to make a U turn and go back to ask the driver about it.
It was a 2009 170" WB with a used Peterbilt 63 inch sleeper and a used Supreme 10 foot long, 102" wide, 85" tall box on it.
The driver was taking it to a paint shop to have it painted.
He said he would be able to load 4 skids, but did not know how much it weighed as there was no interior in the sleeper.
I wish I had a camera but had left my phone at home.
Anybody else seen a set up like that?

I have seen such a truck but the sleeper was maybe 36" wide. If it is an ought 9 that driver logs and has hos issues. Hope he knows that. That chassis was 11030 lbs.

All that work and 12-15 mpg? Is it worth it?

Yup...all the money spent he could have just bought a straight truck...

Just out of curiosity, I know that the Sprinter 3500 may be purchased with a 9990 GVW but it has dual rear wheels which present a problem with pallet clearance between the wheel wells. Has anyone considered going from a DRW setup to a SRW arrangement so long at the tire and wheel capacity are able to accommodate the 9990 GVW? This should allow the wheel wells to be cut down inside the van to allow for more cleaance.

The wheelwells can be cut down and still run the dials..if you look hard enough there is a thread here that showed it being done....

Well if it was a cab/chassis setup, the sleeper would look rather odd. You can get it in a 9900 GVW but why would you, to haul 1100lbs?

If it has a 102" wide box, would that even be legal, the track of the sprinter rear axle is something like 7x inches - a lot of overhang.
