The (not quite) ultimate expediter

or perhaps the ultimate factory expediter. I'm looking at about Oct. 22 delivery of a KW W900 that will be set up as a D unit. There are 10 pages of specs but the highlights are 86" studio sofa sleeper, Cummins ISX 450 smart torque engine, Eaton 18spd double overdrive transmission, 3.25 axle ratio, tandems, and 52k gvw. The box is going to be a Morgan with 97.5" wide and 103" high opening roll up door and 22' inside length. It will have power dolly legs. It will probably have a Rigmaster although I'm looking at other options still for APU. It isn't going to be as nice as a custom ARI or ICT or other custom sleeper but will be more than adequate and also allow the full 22' inside box length. Is it October yet? :+

Sounds pretty cool LDB, I've only seen pics of one done like that, so you should have a pretty unique ride!

Good luck with it!

Leo,

Why an 18 speed?? If you were going to have to get 100+K lbs. rolling I could see it, but for an expedite truck it seems like serious overkill.

The 18 also weighs over 100lbs. more than a 9 or 10 speed.

I wanted the double overdrive which meant either the 13 or 18 speed. The 18 is only about $100 more than the 13 and potentially has better resale by more than $100 so I went with it. Most of the time I'll only use the low side gears up to low overdrive which will give me 60mph@1400rpm. If I choose to go faster then high overdrive will give me 70mph@1400rpm.

Yeah, gotta watch the resale on the Class 8's... around here, that set up would be great resale for a dump truck chassis.

That's a beautiful upwards of a quarter million dollars and would look great with a small box on the back.

That's a Volvo VN Series with a 186" ARI Legacy Custom sleeper. Gotta love it!

Mike in SW Ohio

I would go alittle bigger and run it as a "B" unit.:7

Gotta Agree with T-Hawk here, OVERKILL, why? Yeah to each his own I know I know.

Observation, how many of us look at a 20 year old driving an Esclade with the TVs, Spinners, Stereo so loud, etc... Beautiful vehicle do not get me wrong, but there is a line between profit and show and at a 1.25 a mile you make the same amount driving a 30K five year old truck or a brand new 250,000.00

The kids ego can afford the SUV but his wallet cannot if he is making a legal living.

That would make a dandy C unit. The wheelbase is too short for a D unit I think.

I might be the only one out here, but when running my D unit I also had the roll-up door with the 97.5 width and lost a few loads out of UPS in Louisville as the air cans or boxes would not fit. had 100" inside but door frame support was choke point. Might be something to consider, 90% of my freight is UPS based so this might not be a factor with other customers

Good Luck

My current swing doors are 96". I had one load that wouldn't go through so they had to turn them on end. That only let 4 fit instead of the 6 I was to take. I took the 4 but decided I'd have a wider opening next time. I can't imagine having 97.5" clear won't be enough for anything I'd be asked to take.
