As one of the options to the possible rule change: Putting it in the discretion of the ref to call a penalty or not makes no sense. If the player says the slur,what difference does it make 'depending on the circumstance'?What circumstance would make it ok? I also think if this rule goes into effect, it should include all racial and gay slurs, not just one particular slur word. Players can still insult other players mamas and her proclivites I assume.

You forgot tight end and wide receiver, as well as the Packers. Gap coverage could be considered bi. Facemask, pigskin, horse collar, all sound like kinky toys.
