Total rumor mill cb styuf. Was told a few days ago after the first of the year Chrysler will no longer accept vans without dot numbers. Supposedly one other big name to but it slips my mind.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Who is trying to charge you $500? I live in GA and have own authority. GA DOT has beem out to visit me on two occasions. I was told by both account my van is under 10,000# that I can run within the state of GA and don't need any authority or no sign on my van. If you haul across state lines you do need an MC# but not a DOT if under 10,000#. I got full authority account I found a couple of Brokers I was hauling for did not have proper authority. I wanted to be sure my butt was covered.

You'll find the reason for carriers asking for MC numbers for vans that aren't exclusive use. It's in there. ;)

Thanks for sharing these links. I had not seen this series of blog posts by Shelly Benisch before. Great series! Very informative. It is nice to learn more about "the multis." If the exiisted at all when Diane and I entered the industry, they did not exist in a big enough way to be noticed. Now there is much talk about them and their impact in the expediting industry. It's nice to learn more.

The big thing is not about people running for muti carriers its the o/o or driver running over weight loads and carriers pushing unsafe driving hours on to drivers. There should never ever be a direct drive 1200mile run with out fuel stops or bathroom breaks and even a 2 hour nap build in.

There should never be a straight thru 1200 SOLO run.

No nor for a team.....driving non-stop with just fuel breaks is not enuff ever because the new norm for avg speed biding seams to be 50mph

Only about twice in thousands if bids have I found that the 50 average, or really close to it, wasn't all the broker was asking for. Except for those that come through at 100+ MPH. But that guy (PL) is just silly. He just wants excellent service and good communication. I think we can all understand that. He and his peeps have fed us well.

Dan by your example, then you as a solo should be limited to 600 miles or less per load before you take an ample break.

When Jenny and I were in the Sprinter, we had no problems doing a 1200 or 2400 mile run straight thru, we knew how to manage our driving time and our sleep scheduels. Since we moved up and teamed in a straight truck, we have more comforts than in the Sprinter making it easyer to rest and get restfull sleep. By doing this, we have no problems doing back to back to back runs, and can essentially run 22 hours a day for 7 days, before I would get a hotel for a night or two.

There are many teams out here that do that every day.

As far as the average speed that a load is booked at depends on the carrier and customer request. The carrier we run for gives us more than enough time to deliver the load safely, even on the "Hot" shipments.

Is it easier to run the longer loads in the more comfortable straight, or in the more flexible $printer ? i.e. 5/5 splits, run til your tired, no stupid 30 min break.

Sorry but your story doesn't add up. Whether or not you have your own authority has nothing to do with whether you choose to accept an over weight load, direct drive long load, or what the carrier should offer you. You and only you determine what goes on your truck and what amount of time is acceptable for fuel breaks, bathroom breaks, nap time, etc. if you are under 10,000#. What exactly are you trying to say?

I have had carriers lie about the weight on loads. One even lied 2 times on the same load even after i faxed in a scale ticket. And as of late the direct drive stuff has been getting told "i'll get it there when i get it there". There is NO load worth my life ever.

Your original post said you were being forced to get an MC/USDOT number. Then you said you couldn't name names. Now you are complaining about having to take over weight loads and loads that are too long. When I take all your words in order and try to make sense of them I can't. You seem to be talking apples and crow bars. The questions I have are as follows: Did one or more of your carriers tell you to get your own authority? Did one or more of your carriers as you say "make" you take an over weight load, and did they "make" you take a load that was, in your opinion, too long to safely drive? Be honest.

1. Did one or more of your carriers tell you to get your own authority?
A. Yes they want me too.
2. Did one or more of your carriers as you say "make" you take an over weight load.
A.they tried to! Its hard to miss the sag on the back of my van when a "750lbs 2 pallet load" bottoms out on the rubber stops. Wound up scaling out to 3377lbs
3. and did they "make" you take a load that was, in your opinion, too long to safely drive? Be honest.
A. Nobody makes me do anything but don't you love it when you get told after taking a load "o thats a direct drive" i have turned a few down after being up all day.
