The Good Times Thread.. or What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful for:
The good health & physical ability to do the work required.
The mental acuity to learn (and keep learning as I go).
The family that supports me emotionally, even though they don't understand why I don't just "get a 'real' job".
The whole EO community, for knowledge, friendship, laughs, challenges, and best of all: a feeling of belonging to the best internet group on Earth.
The knowledge that I am capable of supporting myself - priceless.
The chance to see the great diversity of America: the New England coast, the big cities, the pristine beaches, the open spaces out west, the awesome Rocky Mountains, Tennessee on a foggy morning - the list is endless, and it's all part of my daily life now. And I love every bit of it.
Well - except for rush hour in Chicago.....:D

Wow... this is cool :)

I knew we could...

Ps... in following the lead of others... guess I'm glad for a better half who's put up with me for almost 21 years... plus.. I've got a brand new Great Nephew... I feel old now.. LOL.

I am thankful for being able to learn all kinds of survivor skills like living on lower pay, winter driving, sleeping in the cold, wondering all night if the truck will start in the morning and how to shop at Walmart without spending any money. But at least I am having fun chasing my girlfriend around half the country as she seems to get better loads than I do. We both never turn down any load but hooking up is becoming quite a challenge when you are sitting 4 or 5 days at a time. Actually times are always good because if they were to be bad you might as well hang it up and move on to the next life. Why live with the thought that things are miserable?

This was a huge gamble for my wife and I . More for my wife.
She had never even drove a truck before. More important, she had climbed up the corporate ladder and was part of management (the only female) at a 700 employee business.
She was making a very large salary, with all the benefits.
We did not do this for money but for what others seem to be thankful for.
To share something together and make it successful.
So I am thankful that we found what we believe is the perfect combination.
Company, truck and most of all, fleet owner.
If one of these pieces of the puzzle were not in place, it would be a lot harder out here.

PS, thanks for starting this positive post.

Thankful for finally having a chance to live out a life long itching to drive a truck. Thankful, that after months of back problems, (which I sold my truck and gave up on ever doing this again) I am able (with spinal injections) to continue driving again. Not for the money (although I have to pay for this desire), but for the chance to do what I want to do for at least a few of my remaining healthy years. Until I started expediting, I had been in more foreign countries than I had states. Of course that has changed now and I am glad to have had the chance to see what I have seen. And the Lord says heaven will even be more beautiful. Can't imagine.

I am thankful for the stepping stone FECC provided in helping qualify us for our current carrier in the trucking/expediting industry. By having hauled "high value" freight for five years that the White Glove Division handles daily, that helped greatly to qualify us in the handling and hauling the multi-million dollar jet engines we now haul daily. Our prior trucking experience probably would not have carried as much weight without the FECC added to it, I believe. The FedEx name does get one's attention. It was definately an important part in our current carrier considering us for the job that we've both come to love so much.

I'm also thankful for the friends we made while with FECC that continue to keep in touch since we left. I wish them well.

The thing I'm most thankful for is my wife Shawna. I can never thank her enough for choosing to leave an eleven year carreer in law enforcement so she could be on the road with me. Then to have her take it a step further and take me from being a company driver to owner operator is the icing that goes with the cake. She is special!!!
