The part about Trump wanting to become a dictator is nonsense, but the idea of him running as a 3rd party candidate is entirely plausible given the divide among the GOP right now. Just for the sake of speculation, my money is on DeSantis being the Republican candidate because the party establishment will back him over Trump. That being the case, DeSantis would also be the winner of a 3-way election in the House, since the state delegates would probably back the less controversial candidate rather than create a split that would allow another 4 years of socialist Democrat control of the executive branch.Im going to lay something out there that I didnt come up with but will pretty much end the GOP if they do follow through with it. We all know Trump is not going to win an election, there are too many never Trumpers within the GOP for that to happen. What if Trump runs as an independent and between him, and the 2 party candidates nobody gets the required 270 electoral votes. Then the house would elect the next president and all the Republicans chose Trump instead of their candidate. The person with the fewest votes will become president.
Trump has already said he wants to expand the power of the President, he really wants to become a dictator, why not start that process with tricking the part of the GOP that hates Trump?
But taking a step back, I still don't think Trump will run in spite of his continued popularity among a large segment of Republicans. His children will talk him out of it. He'll be 78 years old, carries too much baggage, and his election would create too much turmoil in a nation that will be sickened by four years of misery and mismanagement by Joe Biden. The smart move would be for him to make a deal with DeSantis for his support and play the role of king maker in the Republican Party.
